The companion to Raina Telgemeier's #1 New York Times bestselling and Eisner Award-winning graphic memoir, Smile.

Raina can't wait to be a big sister. But once Amara is born, things aren't quite how she expected them to be. Amara is cute, but she's also a cranky, grouchy baby, and mostly prefers to play by herself. Their relationship doesn't improve much over the years, but when a baby brother enters the picture and later, something doesn't seem right between their parents, they realize they must figure out how to get along. They are sisters, after all.

Raina uses her signature humour and charm in both present-day narrative and perfectly placed flashbacks to tell the story of her relationship with her sister, which unfolds during the course of a road trip from their home in San Francisco to a family reunion in Colorado.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unbelievably Relate-able Great book! Easy to read. This book teaches you after all the fights and bickering with your siblings, you love each other, forever. I found this novel very relate-able because I got to see Raina's point of view. Raina explains the relationship between sister, and show its unconditional love.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Totally relatable I personally don't have a sister but almost all my friends do and usually sisters fight. Most people know that. If you have a sister or a brother you will relate to this book 100%! And if you don't have a sibling it's still an incredible book to read!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great book! Sisters. This was a very good book if you have any siblings because it teaches you that sometimes at the start you might not get along but some times what you wish for you might not always regret at the end. I really liked that sometimes you have to do what the other person wants to do and if one of your siblings really want something but you don't want what they want you sometimes have to see what happens and then maybe you will get more used to that kind of thing and at the end you might like it so much you sometimes will play it with either your little sister, your big sister,or your little brother,or your big brother and that is why I enjoyed reading this book.❤️ >> >> Maija -grade 3

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome!!!! This book is really relatable to life, and all its ups and downs. So basically, they go on a road trip to visit their cousins in San Francisco, and it shows flashbacks of when they were kids and what happens in the car. Don't worry, I know it sounds confusing but you'd understand when you will read it. I loved it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sisters is an amazing title and fits the book. Raina wants a sister and is granted with one. Amara is really annoying to Raina especially after the "incident" on the way to Colorado and back. What the incident was, clearly did not please Raina. What does she do about it? Well..you'll have to read the book!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Sisterly Jealously I don't have a lot to say about this. It's for a younger audience than Telgemeier's previous two books and not anywhere near as good. An enjoyable but mediocre story of the dynamics between typical sisters. This is again biographical like the author's first book, Smile, and takes place concurrent with it as well. The girls learn a few things about their family and themselves but the only real plot of mention is that of a pet snake that escapes. Not bad, but only fair to middling compared to the author's previous work.

Editorial Reviews

Praise for Sisters:* "Telgemeier's art complements her writing to great effect, offering a cheerful, vivid cartoon simplicity that allows readers to instantly engage even as it leaves room for deeper truths to take hold." - Booklist, starred review* "Told in then-and-now narratives that are easily discernible in the graphic format, Telgemeier's tale is laugh-out-loud funny (especially the story about the snake incident) and quietly serious all at once. Her rounded, buoyant art coupled with a masterful capacity for facial expressions complements the writing perfectly." - Kirkus, starred review* "Though the artwork draws little attention to itself, Telgemeier's visual storytelling skills are well-honed, and readers will be left wishing for more." - Publishers Weekly, starred review* "Telgemeier has returned with a must-have follow-up to Smile (Scholastic, 2010) that is as funny as it is poignant, and utterly relatable for anyone with siblings." - School Library Journal, starred review* Fans of Telgemeier's graphic-novel memoir Smile will be smiling all the way through this companion book, an often bittersweet but amusingly told story about Raina's intense and difficult relationship with her younger sister, Amara." -The Horn Book Magazine, starred review"I love [Telgemeier's] work, not because it is exotic or unusual, but because she writes stories we have all lived, and tells them in a way that feels uncomfortable yet transcendent. The profound thing Raina discovers is that we do not have to navigate the difficulties alone." - The New York Times Book Review"Telgemeier's text and drawings practically jump off the pages, so highly charged is her depiction of sibling rivalry, love, annoyance, passion and humour." - The Toronto Star
