The gripping first book of a rebellious trilogy about truth, power, and impossible choices, perfect for fans of Divergent and Legend.

Kyla’s memory has been erased, her personality wiped blank, her memories lost forever. She’s been slated. The government claims that she was a terrorist and they are giving her a second chance—if she plays by their rules. But scenes from the past haunt her as she tries to adjust to a new life, family, and school, leaving her unsettled. Who is she really? And if only criminals are meant to be slated, why are so many other teens disappearing? As she and her friend Ben seek answers, Kyla is torn between the need to know more and her instinct for self-preservation.

"A suspenseful page-turner with a highly sympathetic and strong female protagonist. . . . Will have readers waiting eagerly for a sequel.” —Booklist

"Excellent. . . . Kyla's erased memory works wonderfully as a storytelling device." —io9

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Really good! A dystopian novel that isn't like every other dystopian novel. A refreshing and interesting story, worth a read.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Book! Read this book in middle school and it really opened my eyes! The book was a page-turner and I could not put it down! Slated it the first book and I could not wait to read the rest of the trilogy because the suspense at the end kept me up at night! The character Kyla was very well written and Teri Terry is an amazing author, I would recommend her books!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Different Let me get this out of the way: I like that Ben was weaker than Kyla. Usually the male love interest is strong, not flawed, and more in the know than the girl. But, while Kyla isn't always entirely sure what is going on, she's different than Ben in that her mind is just...stronger? I don't want to give too much away, but I really enjoyed this book. World building is great, characters are sometimes one dimensional but not often - everybody has a layer. Overall, great read.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved this read! One of the best written YA dystopian novels that I have read in a long time, refreshingly free of the copious amounts of angst normally found in many teen books. There is a grittiness to this story that resonates.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I Loved This! Slated was a fabulous book, I could not put it down! There is so much action constantly throughout the story, and it does not disappoint. However, the ending was not very logical, and there was no development between the two characters that seemed to indicate anything was going to happen, which does create an unexpected ending, just too unexpected. All in all, it was an awesome book!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best book series I've read When I first got this book I didn't expect much, but when I read it, my visions on it changed. It's filled with great characters and it has a thickening plotline. This book is perfect for whoever loves thrillers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great! even better than Great It was amazing must read the other books!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better than expected This book is better than I expected, considering the author has the same first and last name. I didn't hold out much hope, as everyone and their brother seems to be writing dystopian series nowadays. However, this book surprised me. It had twists that I didn't see coming, and steadily held my attention. The main character is genuine, and you grow with her. All in all, a great read.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Hmmm Well, It was really easy to get into this book, however many of the supporting characters fell a little flat. All the intrigue going on and yet hardly anything gets answered by the end makes it a frustrating read. I am not sure if I'd want to read the next book unless it actually gives some answers. The story plateaued fast and didn't get exciting til nearly the very end. A bit disappointing all around.

Intriguing—readers will be on tenterhooks for the next one.”—Kirkus Reviews  “Terry’s debut is a suspenseful page-turner with a highly sympathetic and strong female protagonist. A perverse sense of claustrophobic dread grows throughout the novel. . . .
