about

USA Today bestselling author Catherine Gayle presents another novel in the sexy Tulsa Thunderbirds hockey romance series, a spin-off from the Portland Storm series.

When dark desperation meets opportunity…

On a celebratory trip with his best friend, Ray “Razor” Chambers meets sultry Viktoriya Dubrovskaya and immediately recognizes the desperation in her eyes—a sight he remembers all too well. Permanently in survival mode, the destitute and broken Viktoriya makes him an offer—a proposition he immediately refuses. However, Razor’s counter-offer changes everything for her.

A ring.

A marriage.

A lifetime of opportunity.

But learning to live together as husband and wife is as foreign as interpreting Smoke Signals. And where there’s smoke, there’s usually fire.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic read that will grab you! Smoke Signals is the second book in the Tulsa Thunderbirds series, a spinoff and companion series to Catherine Gayle's fantastic Portland Storm series. And like all of the books in these two series, this novel combines love, steamy romance, hockey, and real life issues that hit hard. I love hockey and I love novels about hockey. And I have no small amount of love for the attention to detail that Catherine puts into the hockey aspects of the book, making it not only absorbing for long-time fans like myself, but putting in just enough explanation into her writing to make it easy for hockey noobs to understand, too. But as much as I love the hockey, it is the characters and their stories that really make the difference. The characters are so real, so well-developed, that you truly become connected to their stories. This book revolves around Ray "Razor" Chambers, who we originally meet in the Portland Storms series. When he goes to Vegas for his best friend Bab's wedding to his long-time love Katie, he expects only to be there for that important day and to see old friends. What he doesn't expect is that is entire life will change. But change is what happens when he meets the gogeous Viktoriya Dubrovskya. Gorgeous, a porn star, and one of the most broken women he has ever met. And his only mission from that moment is to protect her and to help her, no matter what she or anyone else says about it. Like all of these books, Smoke Signals is raw and emotional and Catherine doesn't shy away from real issues and real problems. This is probably one of the more graphic novels in the series and that is less about the steamy factor and more about the very real issues that Viktoriya goes through over the course of the story. I found it hard to read at moments, but that wasn't because of the book itself or how it was written. It was because it was just difficult to imagine the kind of hell that human beings can put each other through and the circumstances that put people into the positions they find themselves. The author has a knack for finding these issues and highlighting them through her characters in a way that may make you uncomfortable and emotionally raw, but also in ways that truly make you think. My Recommendation: Great romance, great hockey, and a great story! It's emotional and at times uncomfortable to read, but it is a book that makes you think and see the world a little differently. Rated 5 out of 5 by from wow...just wow **I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review I am a HUGE fan of Catherine Gayle and her Portland Storm and Tulsa Thunderbird series and I can say this installment in the Tulsa Thunderbird series did not disappoint. When I read the initial teaser I wasn’t really sure what to expect. Razor was never written to be the most sensitive and giving guy. And a Porn star turning hooker becoming a wife??? I was intrigued into how she was going to spin this story. Well, it was amazing. I LOVED this book. Getting to know the real Razor showed us a sensitive, caring man with a huge heart. (Sigh) His childhood has given him insight into a world few of us would ever know. I started off thinking I wasn’t going to like Tori and ended up loving her. Her struggles and pain were so raw. The patience, love and understanding that Razor showed in his relationship with her was beautiful. And Razor’s mom…..She was awesome! I hope she comes down to visit Tulsa as this series continues. Was great to see more of Tallie and Hunter as well as some characters from the Storm series. I Can’t wait to read Dimas story.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worthy of More Than 5 STARS! Smoke Signals by Catherine Gayle should come with a warning on the cover. DO NOT START READING THIS BOOK UNTIL YOU HAVE TIME TO READ IT ENTIRELY. Trust me, once you start reading you will not want to put it down. Razor Chambers may have most of the world believing he is not a good guy, he's the wild one, with no filter.. and this bad boy is in Vegas for the wedding of one of his best friends and former teammates. After meeting and being propositioned by a beautiful Russian this bad boy surprised this reader by becoming one of my favorite romantic heroes ever! Viktoriya is in a desperate place. She's lost her student Visa when the school she was attending sent her packing after finding out that she was working in the porn industry on the side to be able to stay in the United States. She has no where to turn the prospect of going back to Russia is scarier than any of her other less than favorable options. Offering herself to the handsome man on the casino floor in exchange for money is just the next step in her downward spiral. She never expected him to proposition her right back.. but with an offer of marriage and safety. Razor sees his mother's past struggles in the beautiful eyes of Viktorya. He is determined to give her something his mother never had.. a chance. These two find themselves married and on their way back to Tulsa. Now for this plan to work, they must convince everyone around them that they are madly in love.. which given their mutual attraction and fast forming friendship becomes less hard.. and very real. A heroine with a disturbing past, a bad boy who is oh so good.. These two steam up the pages! Catherine Gayle did a fabulous job of investing me in this story. I felt a gamut of emotions from sadness, to happiness, to the butterflies caused by the love that grows between Tori and Razor. Smoke Signals is Book #2 in author Catherine Gaye's Tulsa Thunderbirds series. It can be read as a complete stand alone. In fact I read it before I read Book #1 in the series Bury the Hatchet and loved them both equally. Catherine Gayle is an author who firmly earned her spot on my auto buy list several books ago when she hooked me on the Portland Storm series (P.S,> if you are a fan of her Portland Storm series, the wedding in this book is Katie & Babs.. I can't get enough of those two.) I gave this book 5 Stars and would probably give it more if it were allowed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sexy, seductive, intense read Smoke Signals, the second book in the Tulsa Thunderbirds series, is the story of Razor and Tori. Razor is in Las Vegas to participate in Babs and Katie's wedding. Razor and Tori's story is dark and deep and emotional, and I couldn't stop reading it. For readers sensitive to emotional issues surrounding sexual abuse, this book may not be for you. But, Catherine Gayle does a masterful job of weaving a dark and complicated childhood for Razor, making him singularly qualified to identify the root of Tori's issues. He sees in her a depth of pain and suffering that he recognizes for what it is, and feels drawn to help her. The depth of the characters in this book is astounding. Each time you think you've seen everything influencing Tori's life, Razor peels back the onion and discovers more. And behind Razor's gruff exterior is a heart of gold and a sensitive side. His relationship with Tori starts as a solution to a problem and results in love. I think both Tori and Razor were shocked with the direction their relationship turned, but with the depth of emotion each has to pour into the relationship, its no wonder. By each of them exposing the rawest parts of themselves, they also opened themselves up to love. I love Razor's mother - it's not often you see a grown man so comfortable discussing sex with his mother, but the author crafted these conversations so they were as natural as discussing what they wanted for dinner. The entire supporting cast of characters completes this book, and we catch up with Hunter and Tallie, and get to know other members of the Tulsa Thunderbirds a bit better. Dima played a critical role in Smoke Signals, as he is Tori's connection back to her Russian roots. I look forward to his happily ever after. I had almost written off the Tulsa Thunderbirds after the first book, deciding that maybe this series wasn't for me. But Smoke Signals has redeemed my hope in this series, and the emotional depth of the stories in this group, and I look forward to the next installment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another winner in this series! **An ARC was provided by the author for an honest review** Smoke Signals is the second book in the Tulsa Thunderbirds series and it is a raw and gritty tale that is also full of tenderness, understanding and hope. What happens when you go to Vegas for your best friends wedding? You get married, right?! Well, in the case of Ray "Razor" Chambers, that's exactly what happens! Razor encounters a woman that he realizes is in way over her head and part of what he notices is a woman who needs help and compassion. Can he step in and give this woman the stability she needs? Saying that Viktoriya Dubrovskaya has had a rough life is putting it mildly. Her father pushed her to leave her native Russia years ago for her own safety, but things have not gone as she had planned. She's been dealt a hand that forced her to use her body just to make ends meet and that has pushed her into pure survival mode. When she sets her sights on Razor in the casino in Vegas, she doesn't realize that this chance encounter is going to change her life in ways she could have never imagined. After Razor marries Tori to help with her visa issues, he realizes that the scars she bears are deeper than he could have imagined. Can he break through the suit of armor she has armed herself with and can Tori let her past go in order to move forward? I am so glad we were treated to Razor's story. I'm really not sure I could love Razor more than I do after finishing this book. We knew him as Babs' best friend, but he was so much more and this book was fantastic. Catherine Gayle is known for tackling issues in her books and this one is no different. There are serious issues dealt with in this book including trafficking, pornography and abuse, but they are handled with care and I applaud Catherine for continuing to focus on real-life issues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another awesome book!!! I received an ARC of this book for a review. I thoroughly enjoy reading Catherine Gayle. She is a talented author. She writes about taboo topics that touch your heart. I was never really a fan of Razor. He seemed to arrogant but it turned out he had a reason for that arrogance. He is an amazing guy with a heart of gold. Tori is a desperate woman in need of a caring and strong person to help her through her pain. In steps Razor. I would recommend this book to everyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from MUST READ HOCKEY ROMANCE You never know where life will take you until your journey is forced upon you. I wanted to reach through the pages and help Tori myself. She is such a strong but weakened person that you can't help but fall in love with her. However to see such a strong will, successful , athlete take her under his wing because he can and wants to save her from herself is so riveting. Seeing Razor in this book makes me reevaluate my perception of him as a butt head. I could have read this book as a stand alone book and enjoyed it but I'm glad I didn't. Reading Bury the Hatchet , Tallie and Hunters story, provided some insite to this book. Catherine Gayle out did herself with this book. I haven't read anything by her that I didn't absolutely love.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Razor and tori OMG Catherine! When you have the puk you have the stanley cup !! I just finish it and Whaou so just one word :this book was absolutely fanastique ! You know Catherine Gayle Storm serie ? We where all on Bab and Katy on the sequell (you can have it if you sucribe on here newslate r), when Katy get a first cancer, and the second when Bab get back to her o her second cancer. So we were expecting for the final : the weeding !! Yes we finally got to see the long awaited Katie and Babs' wedding. We knew Razor as the ashole and best friend of Bab !!But what we didn't expect was to saw Razor the good man seen in Vitory eyes( short in name by Razor : Tori). I don't want to spoil the book for anyone but Razor is an awesome guy and "a good man."  This book brings to light a young girl cut from friends and familly, obliged to come to another country to survive ; she had to do one of the things that desperate women need to do in order to survive and what the consequences are for them. I never even thought about stars going through that . Thank you Catherine for not only opening my eyes but showing me that it truly is a nasty business.  I loved how Tori was able to grow, prosper and have trust and faith in people because of the caring of those people that show her they loved her, mainly Razor. I also loved when she get back her confidence by that seen when she stood up to the judgmental Mrs. J. I don't want to say too much to give things away though.  I received a ARC of this book for an honest review and I have given that...if you want to read an awesome book try any of Catherine's books. In fact read all storm serie and the two new books of Catherine serie Tulsa Thunderbirdsi ncluded this one SMOKE SIGNALS

Rated 4 out of 5 by from One word: Razor oh and a whole lot of emotions! I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Let me just start by saying that I have been hooked from the very start, way back when it was Eric and Dana (go read it!) and the books that have followed do not dissapoint. Ahhhhh I had no clue this book was gonna be about Razor I have adored his punk ass from the very start. I had no clue he had a caring bone in him, oh but he does and it might be the second biggest thing he has to offer. He is so understand with Tori and never gets discouraged or upset. Oh and the way he is with his Momma...be still my heart!!! Tori an ex-pornstar, was hard not to love from the get go especially with how fast and deep we get into her background. However, because of all that she has been through, and I mean it's a lot and it's rough, she has a lot of self-hatred and she believes she is of no worth. So at times it got a little annoying with how often she tried throwing herself at Razor or how often she said "you good man" but didn't believe she had anything good to bring the relationship. All of the relationships in this book were heart warming and just plain awesome but the relationship Tori and Tallie share has been one of my all time favorites. Tallie is non-judgmental, supportive, and talkative she makes me proud to be an Oklahoma woman, how she handles herself is how I strive to handle myself. I adored this book and it has surprisingly turned into one of my favorites. Catherine brought a couple tough pills to swallow with this book but if you can get through them the sun and your smile be shining so brightly in the end

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful... A person never knows how much they can endure until they are not given a choice. Will it be faced with strength and integrity? Will it cause a breakdown that is hard to recover from? Smoke Signals is a story of courage, hope and kindness. Viktoriya is at her lowest when she meets Ray. This girl is in a foreign country with no way to take care of herself. I cried because she truly was alone and didn't have anyone she could on but herself. A good person with no options, she is willing to degrade herself and is on the verge of giving up on her dream. Ray proves to be her guardian angel. Despair begets a safe haven for these two troubled people. Haunted by a past he can't change, he will do whatever he can to protect Viktoriya from enduring what he faced in his youth. When all is said and done Catherine Gayle's powerful novel shows that one good deed, one big heart can make a difference. An act of kindness has the power to heal. I received an ARC of Smoke Signals in exchange for an honest review. Have the hankies close by.
