"Mixed with paranormal romance and humor.Sparks clearly has a style [that] readers love."-USA Today's Happily Ever After blog

From the New York Times bestselling author of the Love at Stake series comes a novel of the Embraced-an epic tale of two star-crossed lovers destined for doom-or desire.

Growing up on the Isle of Moon, Brigitta knew that she was born with the magical powers of the Embraced-even if she did not know how to wield them. But she has finally learned the truth: Brigitta is the lost princess of the kingdom of Tourin. She was sent into hiding as an infant to escape the wrath of her half-brother, the king. And now he knows just where to find her. . .

Rupert is a notorious pirate and sorcerer. He's spent most of his life plotting revenge on the evil king-and Rupert believes that Brigitta could be the key to finally destroying his enemy. But what begins as a kidnapping of the innocent beauty escalates into something deeper, and more passionate, than either captor or captive could have imagined. Rupert soon vows to protect Brigitta against the king-but will they survive long enough to find their happily-ever-after. . .or does fate have something else in store?

Kerrelyn Sparks apparently has issues with reality. After writing more than a dozen books about vampires, she has now completely gone off the deep end and wound up on another planet. But how thrilling that she can share this magical new world with her readers! Although she is best known (so far) for the Love at Stake series, which ...

Rated 3 out of 5 by from "So I Married a Sorcerer" by Kerrelyn Sparks. Book 2 in the Embraced series. I just finished reading this book May 28, 20118. This is my review. I liked this new edition to the Embraced series. This book is about the infamous pirate Rupert who has the power to control the wind and Brigitta, a woman with the power to see a person's secrets when she touches them. Brigitta was sailing from the Isle of Moon when her ship is overrun by pirates. Brigitta is kidnapped along with her chaperon Sister Fallyn. When aboard, Brigitta finds out who she really is and she also finds out the pirate leader is none other than the infamous pirate Rupert. What does he want with her? And why does she feel a tingling in her body every time he looks at her? Could he be the man her sister Luciana predicted she would meet and fall in love with? It can't be true, especially when she finds out he's going to use her as a bargaining chip. Rupert knows exactly who Briggita really is. And he's planning on using her to fill his pockets with more gold. But when he begins to spend more time with her, he's seriously thinking about changing his plans for her. She may be able to help him get the revenge he seeks. If only she'd stop feinting every time he touches her. I really don't want to say too much more about the story line because it would ruin the whole book for you. Needless to say, there is a lot of adventure in this book. Sailing the high seas, a competition to the death, secret identities and pasts revealed. This book has it all. And the humour. In Ms. Sparks style, this book has a lot of humour in it and it blended perfectly with the whole story. The chemistry between Rupert and Brigitta is teasing and playful and simmers throughout the story. The secondary characters like Sister Fallyn and Stefan, Rupert's second in command, are very likable and supply a lot of the humour in the book. The overall plot is exciting and intriguing with great twists and turns and revelations about certain characters. I give this book 3.5 stars. It would have been 4 stars but I took a 1/2 star off because I found some parts of the book were (like Rupert's power) a little long winded. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed this book. Each book is quite long but this book is 470 pages (mass market paperback edition) and I found that it felt like I was reading two books, the first half focusing on Rupert and Brigitta on his pirate ship, then the second half doing a complete 180 where Rupert is in a competition for Brigitta's hand in marriage. The story line actually flows really well but I wish the first half would have been condensed. That's the part I found a little long winded. Other than that, I found this book really enjoyable to read. I will definitely be reading more of this series. Can't wait to start the next one...."Eight Simple Rules for Dating a Dragon."

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Following one’s destiny isn’t easy Review courtesy of All Things Urban Fantasy Following one’s destiny isn’t easy, especially not when there are evil kings, pirates and dragons in the way. SO I MARRIED A SORCERER is the second book in The Embraced series by Kerrelyn Sparks and it was just as much fun as the first. In a world where having magical powers is punishable by death, the Embraced, those born on the nights when the twin moons meet, are hunted and feared. Both are hero and heroine are Embraced, but their gifts never felt overpowered. If anything, Rupert’s powers were so difficult to control that he was constantly in danger of exposing himself when his emotions get the better of him. When he hears what Brigitta’s brother wants to use her for, he nearly causes an indoor tornado. There is a wonderful mix of propriety-based drama (“Rupert, we can’t be seen alone together, what will people think”) and adventure in caves and battles. In order to get his revenge on Brigitta’s brother, Rupert needs to compete in a cut-throat competition for her hand in marriage. I’m once again impressed at how well the characters are developed in this series. I can’t think of a minor character who didn’t have a purpose, who didn’t either bring something to the story or served to show readers something about the main characters. With a world that is getting bigger every book, with more intrigue both in and out of the royal courts, The Embraced is a great fantasy series with just enough romance to lighten the mood.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast paced, quick wit and awesome characters! I absolutely loved this book! Briggita is captured by the pirate Rupert in is attempt to avenge his family’s deaths. However, he’s not at all what she thought a pirate would be like. He’s a Wind Sorcerer and uses his skills to defeat his enemy while at sea. Rupert’s plan is to take over the country that was brutally stolen from him and his family. While doing so he didn’t expect to feel such a strong connection to one of the people he should hate. Briggita is a strong determined woman who showcases her individuality as well as wisdom and ability to solve puzzles at every turn. Rupert is hard pressed to stay away from her. This story kept me engaged the entire time and I never wanted to set it down. There was always something new around the corner, another hurdle for this couple to overcome or mystery to solve. I enjoyed getting to know both of these characters separately as well as together as a couple. Fast paced, full of quick wit and interesting secondary characters, I fell in love with every word in this book. ARC provided by NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press Dual POV Safe Triggers – no actions taken but some talk of taking the heroine against her will – very minor.
