Some lucky women meet the man of their dreams and live happily ever after. Some lucky women focus on a career and make their own happily ever after. And then some women wake up after fifteen years of marriage and discover that their luck just ran out … right into the arms of another woman.

Jana Embers isn’t one to sit back, though. The first thing Jana realizes she needs to do is empty the joint bank account, then she’s thinking she might take a tire iron to her soon-to-be-ex-husband’s truck. After that, she’s not sure what she’ll do … Maybe she’ll adopt a cat.

After her divorce and a few too many crummy dates, Jana decides she doesn’t need a man. A perfectly sized and shaped device and writing about the perfect hero will more than suffice. Determined to share her philosophy, she pens You Don’t Need a Man, encouraging women everywhere to go out and experience life instead of waiting for a man to complete them.

Three years later, Jana has a New York Times bestseller and a contract for a movie adaptation, but she also has a shoulder injury, which has put a crimp in her new carefree lifestyle. Worse yet, she can’t write. Her only hope is Dr. Adrian Kijek, a renowned physical therapist who hates her simply because she wrote a book about not needing a man, or so she thinks …

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Inspiring story This is a perfect example of the saying "If life hands you lemons, make lemonade." When Jana found out that not only had her husband cheated on her but the woman was pregnant, she divorced him. She hadn't held a job in her 15 years of marriage, so figuring out how to provide for herself and her teenage son was a challenge. She started a book blog and before you know it, she's writing a book! Several best-sellers, as a matter of fact. I liked her spunk and determination. When she realized she could do the things she wanted to do now and not just what she was expected to do, she tried a lot of new activities. Kayaking was her favorite past-time so she spent as much time as she could doing it. During one of these adventures, Jana injured her shoulder, requiring surgeries and physical therapy. That's how she met a man who became very important to her, Dr. Adrian Kijek. This story had a very sad beginning with Jana's marriage ending but became very positive when she wouldn't stand back and feel sorry for herself. Jana's story is inspiring showing a woman doesn't need a man to be a success. She just needs to believe in herself. That positive outlook, among other things, made her attractive to men. She had several wanting her. One of which was her ex, even though he was now with the mother of his baby. I loved the part where he was trying to get Jana to forgive him. He said, "It was a mistake, Jana. I didn't mean -" Her reply was, "A mistake?" ... "Wearing different color socks is a mistake. Sending a text to the wrong person is a mistake. Sticking your penis in the wrong woman isn't a mistake!"
