This wonderful book from children’s author and illustrator Phoebe Gilman is a beautiful adaptation of a Jewish folk tale. In Something From Nothing, the lovely blanket that Grandpa made for Joseph has begun to wear thin. But all he has to do is bring it back to Grandpa, who knows there’s always just enough fabric to turn it into something else. First it becomes a jacket, then when that wears out, a vest. When there’s only a tiny scrap of cloth left, he uses it to cover a button. Joseph is sad when he loses the button, but then he realizes that he has just enough of the old blanket left to make one more thing… a story! Kids three to eight years will love the simple rhymes and repetition in this lovely story of hope and renewal.
