Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another top notch romance! Author Jae is a master storyteller and has real skill in writing characters you can relate to, not just in their personality traits but also in their inner dialogues which she writes as if she’s eavesdropped on the thoughts of other people or they’ve been dictated to her. Conversations between character flow with realism and in a voice that fits each character. So many facets are weaved into her characters so as to be real and making it easy to care for them and root for them in achieving their goals and desires. She also is attentive in her writing of scenes and settings so that characters have a jumping off point for a conversation that feels natural rather than contrived. Every aspect of her writing (and editing) is done with equal care and skill and the results are obvious on the page. I know when I see Jae’s name on a book that I’m going to enjoy the story and need to set aside time to get lost in the book because putting down one of her books once started is a hard thing to do. Plus they tend to be longer than the average book so getting your money’s worth is a sure thing page for page. While the book is a heart stirring romance, there is some homophobia that crops up when Annie is pretending to be involved with Drew; it’s addressed appropriately and has to occur within the context of the story since Annie is straight and Drew is an ‘out’ lesbian. Avoiding it would have robbed the story of some realism and depth as well as character insight for both Drew and Annie alike. This (2nd revised) edition includes the bonus short story ‘Seduction for Beginners’ which is a funny and sexy follow-up to the novel; be sure to read the book first and then the short story for best effect and for the sake of story chronology. I look forward to reading more books by Jae in the future because I know I’m getting a great story from beginning to end.
