David Herbert Richards Lawrence was an English novelist, poet, playwright, essayist, literary critic and painter. His collected works, among other things, represent an extended reflection upon the dehumanising effects of modernity and industrialization. His opinions earned him many enemies and he endured official persecution, censorship, and misrepresentation of his creative work. He was not truly recognized until his death. Sons and Lovers is a novel written in 1913. It is centered on the relationship of Gertrude Coppard, a daughter from burgher family, and a rough-hewn miner, Walter Morel. They fall in a romance driven by physical passion and marry each other. After the marriage Gertrude starts suffering from her husband's occasional violence. Their son, William, is very attached to her, and Mrs. Morel feels heartbroken after his sudden death. Will Mr. and Mrs. Morel reconcile their family? Read the story to know about their further relationship and the fate of Gertrude's second son.
