Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic! This was my first Pratchett book, and the witches are still my favourite characters. Full of humour and charm, Pratchett manages to hold a mirror up to our world. As with all his books, commentary/satire on history, the modern world, and pop culture are woven together with some excellent worldbuilding and endearing characters. If you haven't read a Discworld novel yet, you absolutely should - and Sourcery is a great place to start!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another fun read.... Glad the Librarian had a bigger part this time (oook!) & that the Luggage is still sporting around. They have to save Rincewind, the most cowardly heroic wizard ever, and I'm sure he'll reappear in another Discworld story.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Apocralypse is coming! "Sourcery" is book 5 in the Discworld series. On the Discworld, the eight son of an eight son is, quite naturally, a very powerful Wizard. But when a Wizard has eight children, the eighth child becomes something much more... A source of raw magic... A Sourceror. This book has it all: geeky Wizards, Rincewind and Luggage, an asthmatic Barbarian-wannabe, a beautiful Barbarian vying to be hairdresser, a crappy but very rich poet, a yuppy Genie, plus Plague, Famine and Pestilence getting seriously drunk before the Apocalypse. Definitely a great comedy book, for Discworld lovers or newcomers alike.

Editorial Reviews

 • "Like Jonathan Swift, Pratchett uses his other world to hold up a distorting mirror to our own, and like Swift he is a satirist of enormous talent... incredibly funny... compulsively readable." --The Times • "His spectacular inventiveness makes the Discworld series one of the perennial joys of modern fiction." --Mail on Sunday • "May well be considered his masterpiece... Humour such as his is an endangered species." --The Times
