The New York Times bestselling Star Wars series The New Jedi Order enthralls readers with its epic drama and thrilling adventure. Now readers will pierce the very heart of darkness. . . .

It is a solemn time for the New Republic, as the merciless Yuuzhan Vong continue their campaign of destruction. The brutal enemy has unleashed a savage creature capable of finding—and killing—Jedi Knights. And now Leia Organa Solo faces a terrible ultimatum. If the location of the secret Jedi base is not revealed within one week, the Yuuzhan Vong will blast millions of refugee ships into oblivion.

As the battered but still unbroken Jedi scramble to deal with the newest onslaught, Leia’s son Anakin lays out a daring plan. He will lead a Jedi strike force into the heart of enemy territory in order to sabotage the Yuuzhan Vong’s deadliest weapons. There, with his brother and sister at his side, he will come face-to-face with his destiny—as the New Republic, still fighting the good fight, will come face-to-face with theirs. . . .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Star Wars EU at its best This is an excellent read and not just for a Star Wars book. The mission that dominates the book is riveting and the secondary plot involving the capital is excellent as well. If you are planning on just reading one book from the NJO this is your bet best. I agree with the other reviews that this book does deal a major blow to the EU as a whole. The main character that is killed off was the highlight of the first half of the NJO and was one of the most interesting characters developed by the EU. This was not the original plan, but George Lucas stepped in and swapped the planned death because he didn't trust his fan base's intelligence. The books that come after are solid, but there's definitely a feeling of what could have been.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the EU's best A superb read. The pinnacle of The New Jedi Order. A great Star Wars book and a great book period. The only downside is that *SPOILER* the, with all due respect to Mara Jade, EU's best character goes down. It works within the book and the story line but it's a major blow to the series as the replacements for the character don't quite measure up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing I am an avid Star Wars reader and this is the most amazing Star Wars book I have ever read. I was sobbing by the end, which I had to re-read three times before I closed the book. Although I was devastated by the death of a major character, this book was amazingly well written with a spectacular ending. A must read for any Star Wars fan!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One for the Ages This was an epic build up.The run to the climax of this book is spectacular. Killing off a main character in this book was tough to swallow after reading so many books with him in it,but heros die sometimes. This book at least gives good reason to kill off a main character and doesnt makes his death seem pointless, and it transitions the series well into building up to the end books.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Huge Blow To The Series.... This was a good book overall, but it disappointed me in a few areas. With the death of a MAJOR player in the series, it struck a huge blow to the future books. I was very sad to see this character go, much like Chewbacca in Vector Prime, who like the character who dies in Star by Star, didn't need to be killed off, and killed a part of the series from the getgo. A word of advice to the authors, stop killing off all the main people, your ruining the Star Wars universe!!! Unless by some strange ray of hope happens and all the dead people come back to life in the last few books, I will remain frustrated with the direction the books are heading. As a loyal fan I continue to read on....
