This 1937 successor to Last and First Men offers another entrancing speculative history of the future. Cited as a key influence by science-fiction masters such as Doris Lessing, its bold exploration of the cosmos ventures into intelligent star clusters and mingles among alien races for a memorable vision of infinity.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from interesting This is a book I had to read for a university class and I'll admit I quite enjoyed it. It asks a lot of questions about creation and where the universe came from and if it was here because of the Star Maker (their god.) The character has an out of body experience and spends the entire book traveling through the universe in a span of many years. He encounters a world similar to humans, but different in creation sense, and one of the members of that planet joins him on his journey after the planet is destroyed. They encounter different worlds and life forms The story itself may have not been that interesting. It was a little repetitive. Planet to planet. But reading about the different theological and anthropological questions that arose after each world, and what the character himself thinks I found to be really enriching. It was a school book I will honestly say I did not mind reading.
