Rated 3 out of 5 by from A lovely companion novel to Finding Sky! Originally posted at I read Finding Sky last year and Joss Stirling absolutely surprised me with a clever and lovely paranormal romance. When I knew Stealing Phoenix was coming out, I was absolutely excited to read a new novel written by the same author. Yet, when I got a copy of Stealing Phoenix, I didn't even know what this book was about; I just wanted to have it because, after reading Finding Sky, I absolutely trust Stirling's creativity and the beautiful love stories she can create. Then, when I finally started reading Stealing Phoenix, I was absolutely delighted to realized that this was a companion novel to Finding Sky! So yes! Here we have more savants and more Benedicts! How wonderful is that? I really enjoyed Stealing Phoenix but I have to confess that Finding sky is still my favorite. This is probably because the romance evolved at a slow and more progressive pace and also because the Savant concept was absolutely new. Savants are people with different kind of gifts and each one of them has a Soulfinder (soulmate), but the problem with the Savant's Soulfinders is that they can be born anywhere in the world. Therefore, the chances for a Savant to find his/her soulmate are pretty much....impossible! Yet, Stirling provides the perfect romance novel and introduces us to characters that do find their Soulfinders! The relationship in Stealing Phoenix evolves really fast. However, it is very understandable because Phee and Yves (our lovely Savants) are soulmates. Phee is a very lovable character with a hell of a gift! (she can freeze minds which seems to be very similar to stopping time) However, I did not see much of it and I would have love to see Phee kicking butts with her gift. The problem is that Phee's gift is very powerful but she can use her gift for only a few seconds. This limitation in Phee's power is, at the same time, a weakness that doesn't allow her to be lethal. In the other hand, Yves is absolutely strong. He can control fire at his will. And, contrary to Phee, Yves' gift is very a lethal weapon! I really love the contrast and balance of Phee and Yves' powers. I think this really makes them two halves of a whole. Also, we get to see the whole Benedict family including Zed and Sky! This was absolutely a lovely surprise! It love that the setting this time was in London! I also enjoyed getting to know so many other Savants, that in this case, are not as nice as the Benedicts at all. In Stealing Phoenix, we meet a community of rogue savants that are under the oppression one very powerful one, the Seer. And the Seer is also the greatest danger and obstacle for Yves and Phee to be together. Stealing Phoenix was a lovely, fun and fast read that will keep readers engaged in the mystical romance that Stirling created. Yves and Phee are such a lovely couple that I would love to see again in any Joss Stirling novel. I really enjoyed Stealing Phoenix but, for me, Finding Sky will always be my favorite. So, if you read Finding Sky, you might feel the same way as I. However, I absolutely recommend you to read Yves' story! It's absolutely worth it!

"[I]t's perfect. I simply adore this world, with its humour, love, action and suspense . . . her writing [is] beautiful and her characters realistic."
