Marcia Camp has been a freelance writer for over 35 years. Her features, profiles, short stories, and essays have appeared in newspapers, magazines, and literary journals across the country.


Her favorite form is the essay "which is much like poetry in that every word carries a lot of freight--the essay simply allows a little more time to tell the story."


Camp was nominated for the Pushcart Prize in 2004. Her poetry was recently included in an anthology of southern poets, Working the Dirt (NewSouth Press) and in Cornbread Nation, Vol. III (University of North Carolina Press).


She is the author of You Can't Leave Till You Do the Paperwork: Matters of Life and Death, and she compiled and edited the Charity Letters of JoAnn Cayce in 2008. She has also contributed to the online Encyclopedia of Arkansas History & Culture (, a work-in-progress launched in May 2006, to be published in 2010.
