Sometimes Even Pilots Have to Wing It

In the high-flying, heady world of 1920s aviation, brash pilot Robert “Hitch” Hitchcock’s life does a barrel roll when a young woman in an old-fashioned ball gown falls from the clouds smack in front of his biplane. As fearless as she is peculiar, Jael immediately proves she’s game for just about anything, including wing-walking in his struggling airshow. In return for her help, she demands a ride back home . . . to the sky.

Hitch thinks she’s nuts—until he steers his plane into the midst of a bizarre storm and nearly crashes into a strange airship like none he’s ever run afoul of, an airship with the power to control the weather. Caught between a corrupt sheriff and dangerous new enemies from above, Hitch must take his last chance to gain forgiveness from his estranged family, deliver Jael safely home before she flies off with his freewheeling heart, and save his Nebraska hometown from storm-wielding sky pirates.

Cocky, funny, and full of heart, Storming is a jaunty historical/dieselpunk mash-up that combines rip-roaring adventure and small-town charm with the thrill of futuristic possibilities.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Rollicking, Fun Adventure! In "Storming" K. M. Weiland blends science-fiction and adventure with a large dose of dieselpunk that begins in the 1920's when dashing Robert “Hitch” Hitchcock returns to Scottsbluff, Nebraska after a nine year absence for an aerial competition. Although he knows he'll have to face the criticism and unforgiveness of his family, Hitch doesn't expect to be swept up in the aftermath of a rebellion on board the air ship "Schturming" or to have to battle pirates after his biplane nearly collides with a young woman in a gigantic ball gown falling from the sky. In an entertaining and innovative plot the author brings to life a strange people with their own language, culture and the ability to control the weather who have lived for years above "Groundsworld" in a camouflaged dirigible. The story heats up when Jael an outcast among her people is pushed out of the air ship by Rawliv Zlo, a malicious rebel who's intent on not only killing her and recovering the pendant she stole, but taking over the dirigible. The action never stops and the momentum builds as the townspeople deal with falling bodies, bizarre storms, and lightning strikes as Hitch competes for a place in a travelling air show, fights sky pirates and struggles to thwart a corrupt sheriff's manipulation. Into a story that's grips the reader from the first page to the last, the author weaves in tender subplots like Hitch's struggle to find redemption and forgiveness for his past mistakes and the healing balm of love he finds in his romance with his new wing-walker Jael. Yet as the intensity and suspense builds in a story filled with mystery, secrets, lies and violence there are funny and heart-warming moments like those between Hitch and Walter an eight year old who dreams of flying. Robert “Hitch” Hitchcock is the freewheeling wanderer who dreams of operating a barnstorming circus when he returns to his hometown after nine years. Guilt-ridden and longing for mercy from his estranged family Hitch is determined to bravely face his past even though trouble seems to plague his every move. Proud and adventurous he's smitten by the bold, daring, lovely and feisty Jael, a mysterious woman who can barely speak his language. Unselfish and resourceful her goal is to help her people and put an end to Zlo's reign of terror although she becomes entangled in Hitch's problems. Among a myriad of unforgettable characters who infuse the tale with excitement, energy and drama two underhanded and merciless antagonists add a frightening chill to the story. Rawliv Zlo is the brutal and cruel rebel who takes over the Schturming, threatening the townspeople with destruction and death if they don't pay him. Bill Cameron is the ruthless, crooked sheriff who controls the town, intimidating and coercing Hitch into smuggling goods over state lines. I loved and highly recommend "Storming" a high-spirited, action-packed thrill-ride you won't put down until the end
