Rated 4 out of 5 by from Introduction To Style This is the first book on the subject of style I’ve ever picked up so I didn’t really know what to expect. What I found was that it has very good general (perhaps too general) guidelines and advice on how to dress well. It would be good introduction to the subject of style, an easy reading for somebody who is very new to this. For more experienced readers information in the book might look redundant of what they already know. I found it surprising that the book doesn’t cover undergarments (more specifically bras) at all, something that I would consider the foundation of any outfit and very important for an overall stylish and polished look. Chapter on body shapes does not give clear body shapes description and reduced all body types to full-figured, petite and boyish figures. While it’s entirely possible to combined suggestions for each figure type to apply to your figure, for inexperienced ready there isn’t enough information to clearly identify your own body type and thus applying provided suggestions. What I did like are the photographs. They are inspirational. They are also very useful as illustrations for what author is describing. As far as I can tell if not all then at least a majority of the items in the photographs are high-end, very pricy items. I wouldn’t be discouraged by that. Author is not mentioning any specific brands and I think it’s precisely because everything shown in the pictures are meant as examples, ideas of what one should be looking for in a sense of color, silhouette, shape, combinations. Overall it’s light reading. Book reads more like a fashion magazine article. So being new to the idea of style one would find it a bit difficult to follow advice in this book. Yet I still like it as it inspires to you look your best. There is no 3.5 star rating, so I am giving it 4. A bit later I picket up “Pocket Stylist” by Kendall Farr which I found to be not without its faults but more detailed, better organized as well as more practical then Style Clinic and thus a better choice for those looking to transform/polish their look.
