about

Since September 11th, America’s decision makers have examined issues related to training as it pertains to emergency responders to a suicide bombing incident, relationships between communities with police, and homeland security initiatives with local law enforcement departments.

Current training practices and training focuses on the influence that emergency responder organizational structures and administrative factors have on terrorism response preparedness among local agencies, but few studies have systematically measured these impacts or share information on lessons learned.

Recent research indicated that training could be enhanced if future training promotes a better understanding of case studies of similar suicide bombing incidents and structural characteristics of local active terrorist groups by examining all ideologically motivated crimes, regardless of whether they are also defined as a terrorist.

The conclusion discusses how training could be enhanced by strategically integrating the existing knowledge base across all levels within emergency responders, as well as detailed knowledge of the nature and extent of the threat posed by suicide bombing extremists.

Editorial Reviews

Terrorism is one of the social menaces that are threatening world peace. The global community is no more the same since the terror attack of September 11, 2001, on the United States. Afterwards, there has been a number of suicide bombing attacks on soft targets around the world, which necessitate the need for emergency responders. Apart from being agent of massive destructions and threat to global peace, acts of terrorism has been impacting the social and economic development of the world negatively, especially in recent times.Although, terrorism is not a new phenomenon, its operations, executions, and impacts have taken a new dimension in modern age. Thus, the changing dynamics in terrorist activities have necessitated the need for an examination of issues related to training as it concerns emergency responders when it comes to suicide bombing incidents. This book provides an insightful understanding of how local agencies such as the police, law enforcement department, and homeland security initiatives, among others, can adopt the use of case studies with similar characteristics and the share of information for the training of emergency responders. These strategies enhance the preparedness of emergency responders toward timely voiding of incidents of suicide bombing. This can be achieved through the understanding of the psychology of the individual militants or groups as well as examining the motivating factors fueling the destructive ideology. The author, in agreement with some recent researches, concludes that training can be enhanced by strategically integrating the existing knowledge base across all levels within emergency responders. More also, detailed knowledge of the nature and extent of the threat posed by suicide bombing extremists, weapons used, and target places, is need in order to stay ahead of terror threats. To this end, it is recommended that local agencies should adopt best practices for handling suicide terrorism through consistent and continuous research efforts.
