about

A great new starting point for the Man of Steel is here in SUPERMAN VOL. 1: SON OF SUPERMAN, part of the most critically acclaimed, best-selling, all-new line of volume one graphic novels, DC Universe Rebirth!

When the Man of Steel died defending his adopted home, it seemed that the spirit of truth and justice he represented was extinguished forever. But watching from the sidelines was another Superman—older, wiser, more experienced—with his wife, Lois Lane, and their son, Jonathan Kent.

Now this refugee from a vanished universe is stepping out of the shadows, ready to assume the mantle of his fallen counterpart and take to the skies once more as Earth’s greatest hero.

But he is not the only survivor of Krypton to make the journey to this reality.

The machine mind known as the Eradicator is on the trail of the House of El, and its hardwired directive to protect the Kryptonian genome permits no consideration for any other forms of life—not even those that share Kal-El’s blood.

Can the son of Superman harness his newly emerging powers in time to resist the annihilation of his humanity? Or will he be reborn into a new Krypton forged from the ashes of his mother’s world?

Exploding out of DC’s blockbuster Rebirth event, SUPERMAN VOL. 1: SON OF SUPERMAN marks the beginning of a new era for the Man of Tomorrow and a great jumping-on point for new fans—brought to you by acclaimed storytellers Peter J. Tomasi, Patrick Gleason, Doug Mahnke, Jorge Jimenez, Mick Gray, Jaime Mendoza, John Kalisz, Will Quintana and Alejandro Sanchez! Collects issues #1-6 and the SUPERMAN: REBIRTH one-shot.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent Good characterization and art but it sometimes feels saccharine in it's intimate familial moments and the plots are pedestrian

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Interesting premise.. If you want to see Superman as a father, then you would definitely love this book. Humanizes the Man of Steel quite nicely, and the artwork is superb.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm now officially a Superman fan For the most part I have like Superman but I never purchased his books with the exception of The death of Superman. And when new 52 started I was interested in getting into Superman but I didn't like the new Superman. And I was so excited to hear that new 52 Superman was leaving and pre-flashpoint Superman was coming back. I was interested that Superman was married and had a kid. I just got Superman for my birthday and it was my favorite gift I received. I can't wait to see what happens with Clark and Lois trying to parent John. I'm surprise to say but Superman rebirth was way better then Batman rebirth and I recommend it to anyone who is interested in reading a good Superman story.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bad, really bad I ordered this based on reviews that it had strong characterization btw Supe and his son. If this is what people call strong characterization these days... it was boring to tears. Oh, and gotta love Superman telling his son that his mother will be proud that he admitted to killing the family cat.... I kid you not. The overlapping Eradicator story with all the Kryptonians life-forces inside him was also pure nonsense. (and if the eradicator power on krypton was to absorb life-force while leaving the body intact, how come he actually "swallowed" Krypto and then slurped up Superman like he was simple jello? Poor, horrible writing)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Evolution of Superman --- Family Man! I have not felt this much excitement on any Superman titles/books in almost a decade! The evolution of Superman into a family man has matured the character while continuing to make him relevant today. Clark's marriage to Lois Lane is a testament that married fictional characters can endure & excel in a super-heroic regime. DC's decision to abolish marriages of any kind during the New 52 was a slap to fans. As for Superman's son, Jonathan ...... love the character & him getting into his role as the new Superboy! Looking forward to his adventures with Damian Wayne/Robin. Would love to see Jonathan star in "Superboy & the New Legion of Super-Heroes". The team of Peter Tomasi & Patrick Gleason continues to astound me with their love of DC characters in the stories they present just like they did on their runs on Green Lantern Corps & later Batman/Robin. It is also nice to see former Superman artist, Doug Manake, return to draw the Man of Steel. Superman is the best character being portrayed in the DC Rebirth Universe!
