Reviews

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Well...at least we got closure Actually, no we didn't, because afterwards Pascal released the 6-book Sweet Life series. But... yeah. Nostalgic hardcore fans of the Sweet Valley books will probably enjoy this. Yes, the plot is kind of bare, the characters haven't really evolved, and not much happens. Sections are sloppily edited, Jessica's written with too many "likes" awkwardly placed in phrases, and a lot of people die. But, don't forget, this is Sweet Valley. Where people age in a strange time warp, inconsistencies are consistent, and there are werewolves. If you've never read a Sweet Valley book, stay away. If you're a hardcore fan and accept the books for what they are... why not? For more of what I thought: http://guiltypleasurebooks.wordpress.com/2013/10/03/guiltiest-read-ever-sweet-valley-confidential/

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I'll always love Sweet Valley I wonder if the paperback was re-edited, as I didn't notice the spelling errors which other readers have mentioned. There were a few misplaced commas here and there, however, which did get a little distracting. As for the plot, yes, it's not Tolstoy by any means. But Francine Pascal does have a way of writing that makes you want to keep reading. I didn't mind that the twins were fighting; after all, what would be the point of writing the book without a little controversy? It's probably what Francine (who is in her 70s) thinks the youth of today want. I took it with a grain of salt. Sure, some of the lingo was way off, there was too much repetition, and there wasn't much about the characters we actually wanted to hear about (ie. Lila), but I liked being back in that world. Francine writes about what she considers to be the almost unattainable, like extraordinary beauty and wealth. Some readers think she's being prejudiced. This is understandable, but I really don't think that she meant any ill-will towards people who don't fit her 'mold'. Again, it's probably just what she thinks we want to read about. Overall, I liked having a little slice of Sweet Valley back in my life; regardless of the flaws!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of time Like many I decided to read this book because I loved the Sweet Valley books when I was younger and was curious to see where the characters had gone. Apparently no where. The plot was weak and I felt like I was reading a book written for a pre-teen with some swearing and adult content thrown in. Very disappointed!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Little Bit of a Let down I wanted to read this book probably for the same reason anyone from this generation wants to... to reminisce. Part of me remembered the Sweet Valley of old and remembered liking it. I just wanted to see what happened. When I first cracked this book I was sooo excited. As I read on, it made me realize that even though this is a book 10 years later, the character and plot development was not there. It felt like, aside from the swearing and sexual content, it was a book for someone with less than sophisticated taste. It felt like a book for a 13 year old. Not for an adult trying to catch up with their favourite characters. One thing I did like about the book was the catch up with the individuals at the end. Francine Pascal goes through all our beloved characters and tells us where they have been and what they accomplished in the last ten years.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible I loved the Sweet Valley books growing up, and was super excited when I heard that this was coming out. I advise everyone to avoid this piece of claptrap! There are numerous spelling errors and typos throughout the book, and Pascal has forgotten the canon. Heck, details about some characters changed from the beginning of the book to the end! I wish I'd never read it, it's ruined the old SV books for. I surely hope that Francine Pascal won't write anymore SV books.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed I bought this book based soely on the fact that as teenager I used to absolutely love this series. When I read the cover of the book I thought it would be a more grown up version of the characters and was really disappointed that the writing style remained the same. I found the use of the word 'like' repeatedly throughout the book very irritating and I lost interest in the story very quickly. In hindsight I should have left my memories of the series in the past where I remembered them fondly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sweet Valley Confidential - a hit! For one thing do not base buying the book on the reviews if you are a true fan of Sweet Valley just buy it! I was hesitant at first but I'm glad I did(: it was great; the story was fresh and new, and in one night I had finished the whole book:) who doesn't want to know what happens ten years later? At first it was shocking especially the reason Liz and Jessica are fighting but you get over it and want to find out every juicy detail: which there are plenty! Just remember this is not your childhood Sweet Valley they are 27 years old and having sex and talking about it so don't read the book if your inner 8 year old can't handle it, seriously it's not even sold in the teen section of the book store. One thing that did surprise me was the price $25.00 really, glad I make more than my allowance back then:) Lots of people are complaining about continuity and spelling mistakes but this happened all the time in the original series and happy endings are always to be expected it's Sweet Valley right so don't act so shocked. All in all great read, great buy - my vote 10 out of 10,(lets flood her facebook and hope she writes more! ) I hope this helps with your decision- Happy reading:)

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not worth buying, dumb plot I read parts of this book at my local bookstore. I was shocked by the contents. Jessica ends up being married to a person you would hardly expect. I didn't like the intimate stuff but I guess Francine Pascal wanted to write an adult book not a teen book. The plot line is the exact same thing that happened years ago. Jessica tries to steal Sam to prove a point to Elizabeth who takes off to England. The two men who get involved with them are guys you know from the Sweet Valley High series. I would like to see what actually happened in the period after Elizabeth returned from England. How did the two men decide they prefer one twin over the other? Yes, they dated both twins at one point. I would read this book but prefer to get it at my local library. The best series from Francine Pascal is the Sweet Valley Senior, all 48 books.

1New YorkElizabeth had turned the key in the Fox lock, releasing a heavy metal bar that scraped across the inside of the front door with an impressive prison-gate sound, and was about to attack the Segal lock when the phone in the apartment started to ring. By the time she had opened the second lock and was sliding the key into the last one—this was New York, after all—the phone was on its fourth ring.At almost midnight, it had to be the West Coast calling. She could still grab it in time, but Elizabeth didn’t hurry. Slow, with purpose. Slow, giving the internal anger and hurt time to shoot from zero to a hundred. It needed only seconds, like the start-up speed of a Maserati. Except it was never at zero. Not anymore. Hadn’t been for the last eight months. And she couldn’t imagine a time when it would ever be there again. As always, the hurt overpowered the anger, and what welled up in her throat came with tears that choked her.“You going to get that?” David Stephenson, the young man standing next to her, asked as he stretched his arm over her head to hold the door open. David was six-three and at her five-six it was way over her head.“That’s okay,” she managed, quickly ducking her face away from him, stealing a sliver of extra time as she put the doggie-bagged pork chop she was carrying carefully and more precisely than necessary down on the hall table. It gave her enough time to catch her breath and let the tears slide back down her throat. And with that momentary respite came
