Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it This is the second short story collection and is essential to understanding the story in the novels. After reading The Last Wish i bought this one and i love it just as much. Its got a great world and if you like fantasy at all im sure you'll like this book and the rest of the series. Its got humurous parts in it too and i found myself chuckilimg while reading it. I really reccomend this book and the rest of the witcher books. The translation is amazing and done very well where I forget that its even a translated book.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved it This is the second book. Read the book "The Last Wish" first. The first two books introduce the Witcher and I find him so darn likeable, especially when he philosophizes. These first 2 books are essential reading because they each contain a short story that becomes the main story in books 3 and onward.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Swords, Sorcery, Monsters, and Intrigue Absolutely fantastic read. The collection of stories is diverse, well written, and there's always more at play than you realize making tor an exciting page Turner. The stories are neither too long nor too short and offer excellent pacing. All of the stories have been referenced in the Witcher games, so if you are a fan of those this is a must read. Even you aren't into the games, this book offers any fantasy fan an incredibly well realized world filled with swords, sorcery, and monsters.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Really fun read (4.5) The Witcher tales work so well as short stories and some of the best ones come from this collection. If you're a fan of the game, definitely check this and other Witcher books as they take place before the events of the game and actually came first. #staffpicks

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing! I first got into the world of the Witcher through the video games. You can see why the books were taken to the gaming screen -- one of the richest, most well-written fantasy books I've ever had the pleasure of reading. This collection of short stories really helps to give the reader a lot of insight into Geralt's past, and a whole new appreciation for the Witcher universe. Even if you're not a gamer, read this book! Great read!

Editorial Reviews

"The Lady of the Lake is, without any doubt, the best and most profound fantasy novel I have ever read. It is hard to put down, yet also a challenging and deeply rewarding book. And it is genuinely moving. I have never read a fantasy series like this, and suspect I never will again."-Nerds of a Feather on The Lady of the Lake
