HarperCollins | October 16, 2012 | Trade Paperback

Talking Pictures: Images and Messages Rescued from the Past is rated 5 out of 5 by 2.

With the candid quirkiness ofAwkward Family Photosand the confessional intimacy ofPostSecret, Ransom Riggs'sTalking Picturesis a haunting collection of antique found photographs—with evocative inscriptions that bring these lost personal moments to life—from the author of theNew York Timesbestselling illustrated novelMiss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. Each image inTalking Picturesreveals a singular, frozen moment in a person's life, be it joyful, quiet, or steeped in sorrow. Yet the book's unique depth comes from the writing accompanying each photo: as with the caption revealing how one seemingly random snapshot of a dancing couple captured the first dance of their 40-year marriage, each successive inscription shines like a flashbulb illuminating a photograph's particular context and lighting up our connection to the past.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I loved this I have been wanting this for some time and I am so glad I finally bought it- I wish it was longer as I didn't want it to end. I have looked through this over and over when the house is quiet. Hope the author creates another one soon

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stellar! Okay. This book is crazy good. I received this book for Christmas, and I absolutely freaking love it. It's like visual poetry. Some of the military photos were especially moving. My great-grandfather fought and died in Normandy during WWII, and we have some amazing photos of him from just before he left for war that my family treasures, so those definitely struck me! Sequel, please, Mr. Riggs?
