Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed! I feel the same as some of the others who have purchased this book. I bought it for my granddaughter, but it is not the same as the one I grew up with that I got from my mother. Recipe changes, and others are missing. When I read the forward by Jean Pare from the Company's Coming series I thought I was getting the real deal, instead I think it is closer to some of her recipe choices. The quote "Carefully reproduced from the original 1967 edition" is very misleading. I will be looking for a used copy of the 'original' at a used book store or garage sales.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from good old fashioned family recipes For those who are disappointed that this book is not the same as one they have seen or used, there is another one that is is now out of print. It is newer than the one that is now available but they both have nice basic recipes and I use both. One does not replace the other. Rather it is like a book 1 and book 2.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not quite your mother's cook book... I was absolutely thrilled when I saw this book come back into print. Like the author, I grew up with my mother cooking out of her 60's edition book. However, when comparing the recipes I had copied out of her book to this book, none of them are quite the same. Maybe I'm being nit picky, as the general idea of the recipe is still the same, just with substitutions and changed proportions, but I was really hoping to buy my mother's old cook book, and disappointed when I realized I'd still have to consult my copied recipes instead of my brand new book. So buyers be warned, if you're looking for a new print of an older book, this isn't it, however modified recipes of most of the original content is there.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Family Classic My Mom has had this book for decades. Up until now, it's been laying in tatters in our cupboard drawers, still being used to this day. On a recent shopping trip she came upon this new edition and grabbed three copies; one for her, and one for my sister and I. Now, hopefully there can be many more years of baking and cooking from this book by all three of us!! Highly recommended for a traditional, fail-safe cookbook.

I love this cook book all people should have this cookbook. Especially for the recipe for the chocolate chip cookies, this recipe is my favourite recipe since i was a little girl using the 2nd edition from the orginial of this book.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Purity Cookbook I was given this book as a wedding gift over 27 years ago. I love it. It is full of usefull basic recipes and instructions for down home cooking. Every thing from picture instruction on making bread, how to preserve your garden produce, and cooking charts for meat and veg. It has lots of yummy desserts also. I use it regularly. It has a great section on feeding for a crowd. My husband is the last of 12 children we have many large family gatherings. I also us this section to plan wedding dinners. My children love this book also. I was so excited when it came back into print. I've given a copy to each of my married children because they would phone me for recipes. I highly recommend this book. I've almost worn mine out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Time Honored Tradition I am now the third generation in my family to own a Purity Cookbook. I remember my Grandmother's old red hardbound edition, with notes written in Ukrainian beside every receipe and going over to her place on Saturdays when she did her baking. My Mother's copy, like so many others has seen better days, yet it's still the most frequently used cookbook in the house. When I bought my copy, the first thing I did was see if it still had Mammy's Cornfritters, which my Mother always made once a week. Needless to say, I now make them once a week. This book is truly a Canadian tradition and every family should own one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Canadian Classic After reading the other reviews, I just had to put my two cents in. Even here in Quebec, (where cooking has been greatly influenced by French culture) I can relate! My copy was given to me by my mother and it is currently bound by a thick brown tape, with turned up page edges and many stains throughout. My Aunt's copy has taken a worse beating and also resides in a ziplock bag. This cookbook brings on a lot of warm fuzzy memories of childhood days and the great spread that was put on the table at family get-togethers. This truly is the Classic Canadian Cookbook. It is a must have for every cook's collection. I have seen the reprint as my cousin bought two copies and it is exactly as the original. Too bad they didn't update it to a more user friendly binding though!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Judging by its cover... My original Purity Flour Cookbook, now domiciled in a Zip-lock bag, is still the best in my collection. The reprint is every bit as good except in one major area: Whitecap Books uses a regular binding, rendering the book absolutely useless in the kitchen.

Every woman in my family owns one of the old ones, and now I can replace all of thier old ripped, spilled on, pages missing copies with new ones. I am now a chef and this is where I started. I still use this book often and I reccomend it to everyone, even if you can't cook yet, its a great place to start.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Traditions in the making So now I've got my own copy of Mom's "dirty old book" - so called because it has no cover, it's filthy, and now starts on page 23 - it's been used A LOT! This book represents everything I remember about cooking in Mom's kitchen growing up, I'm amazed at how many recipes I recognize. Mom says the cover's the same as the original, and the printing inside is the same style, too. I got a warm hit of nostalgia when I opened it and saw the printing. The recipes are easy to follow, and with this book I plan to give my daughter the same sort of memories that I had growing up. She's only 1 though, so I've got time to practice...
