about

A Pretty Woman tale turns toxic and deadly in this provocative thriller of sex, obsession, and murder from Robyn Harding, the “master of domestic suspense” (Kathleen Barber) and the USA TODAY bestselling author of The Party and Her Pretty Face.

Natalie, a young art student in New York City, is struggling to pay her bills when a friend makes a suggestion: Why not go online and find a sugar daddy—a wealthy, older man who will pay her for dates and even give her a monthly allowance? Lots of girls do it, Nat learns. All that’s required is to look pretty and hang on his every word. Sexual favors are optional.

Though more than thirty years her senior, Gabe, a handsome corporate finance attorney, seems like the perfect candidate, and within a month, they are madly in love. At least, Nat is…Gabe already has a family, whom he has no intention of leaving.

So when he abruptly ends things, Nat can’t let go. But Gabe’s not about to let his sugar baby destroy his perfect life. What was supposed to be a mutually beneficial arrangement devolves into a nightmare of deception, obsession, and, when a body is found near Gabe’s posh Upper East Side apartment, murder.

Emotionally powerful and packed with page-turning suspense, The Arrangement delves into the sordid, all-too-real world of shadowy relationships between wealthy, powerful men and the young women who are caught in their web.

Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Addictive, amazing read This novel starts off with Nat calling her father whom she has not seen for years. He left her and her mother years ago when Nat was little but she is desperate and has no one else to turn to, Nat has been arrested for murder. Who was murdered? Is Nat truly responsible? Jump back 4 months… .. Nat is a College student trying to survive financially and to make ends meet. She is struggling balancing everything, is stressed out, her roommates don’t like her, and she fears being kicked out of her apartment as she is behind on her rent and bills. One day one of her classmates Ava tells Nat about how she pays for her upscale apartment, which is a penthouse. Ava is a sugar baby and has a sugar daddy. Nat has never heard of this before but Ava tells her all about it and gives her the website address so Nat can check it out for herself. At first Nat wants nothing to do with it, but then desperate for money decided it couldn’t hurt to meet a sugar daddy, just once or twice, for some quick and easy money. Enter Gabe. An older, successful lawyer, who is very rich, handsome and sexy as hell. Nat figures there is no harm in meeting him just once, as there are no strings attached. Gabe has a wife and daughter, which Nat doesn’t know about. What ensues is a whirlwind of emotions, lies, deception, betrayal, secrets and craziness! I loved it!! I loved reading about Gabe. Reading things from his POV was very interesting and he had a very interesting life and personality. I literally was flipping through these pages to see what would happen next and I devoured the book and loved every addictive, thrilling second of it. I thoroughly enjoyed how Robyn Harding referred to several places in Canada in this novel, as I am from Canada and it was nice to read about in a novel. If you haven’t had this book on your radar, you need to get it ASAP! You will not be disappointed! This book was truly amazing and I LOVED it!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Juicy, Delicious Fun If you are looking for a salacious, juicy, meaty and phenomenally tense read to while away your afternoons, this is the book for you. Taking on the Sugar Baby/Sugar Daddy world, Robyn Harding brings to life the gritty world of trading money for a discreet side relationship, and does so with absolute remarkable drama. Everything about this read is compelling - especially watching Nat as she descends from her normal and slightly boring life into a spiral of insanity, stalking and desperation to hold onto a relationship she really believes is more real than it was ever meant to be. There are so many terrific twists and turns to where this story goes, that I cannot reveal much without spoiling the story, so instead I will just say that this one is a must read for some fabulous fall reading fun.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Another crazy ride from Robyn Harding Scandalous subject material and a swift pace, THE ARRANGEMENT was a pleasure to consume in two sittings. The murder mystery component tied the characters together and made for a satisfying end, but for me, the pleasure of this novel lay in Gabe’s descent into (justified) madness. Definitely a must read!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 3.5 Stars It seems easy enough, post a profile on a website, find a sugar daddy who isn’t too scary, go have a drink or two then go home with a few hundred dollars in her pockets. No strings attached. For financially strapped Nat it’s perfect. Then she meets Gabe and and Arrangement is made. He will pay her a monthly allowance and she goes on dates and spends time with him when he asks. Nat breaks one of the most crucial rules when it comes to this lifestyle, she lets herself fall in love with Gabe. So when he unexpectedly breaks off the arrangement, what follows is a whirlwind of jealousy, deceit, obsession and even murder... This one was different and interesting for sure. It took me into a world that I honestly didn’t really know anything about. Thank you to Netgalley, Robyn Harding and Gallery/Scout Press for the gifted e-ARC of this title in exchange for an honest review.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous Well, I learned a new word - pansexual. I also learned a Sugar Bowl is the site where Sugar Babies find Sugar Daddies. I had heard of college girls paying for their educations by being escorts for wealthy older men. That services expected are so varied shouldn't have been a surprise but it was. Natalie Murphy is the product of a broken home. Her artistic nature doesn't fit in with the practicality of small town life. Attending Art School in NYC is exciting and expensive; more expensive than Nat can afford. Feeling pressured by financial needs Nat accepts a paid date with an older man - just to catch up her bills. Falling in love with Gabe makes sex acceptable to her, until he ends the arrangement. What Nat does next is obsessive but not surprising considering how young and emotionally naive she really is. I loved the plot twists and the ending is perfect. I read the book in a one day read-a-thon. it was so good! I volunteered to read an ARC from Scout Press (Siimon & Schuster) through Net Galley.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of my top reads for 2019 hands down Where do I begin….ah yes, ALL THE STARS for this one! Robyn Harding you have done it again; taking a risqué subject matter and knocking it right out of the park – this woman can write one hell of a book! The Arrangement has it all: sex, lies and betrayal and oh yes MURDER! The story opens with revealing that someone has been murdered, if that doesn’t grab your immediate attention I don’t know what will! This book held me right from the first page. I read this one in one sitting, which I haven’t done in a long time – it was THAT good. It’s no secret that I am a huge fan of Robyn Harding’s writing, and I had no doubt this book would be incredible. She has a magical way of taking a topic that others may not want to delve into, and turning into an engaging and entertaining read. This was one hell of a sexy story (and not in a cheesy way by any means). Taking place in one of my favourite American cities, New York, I really enjoyed how Robyn took some real life struggles to surviving in a big city and the lengths some people might go to in order to achieve and accomplish their dreams. I won’t get too deep into plot – I think the synopsis above suffices. Nat and Gabe’s relationship starts out as a simple business arrangement (and means to an end really) but turns into something more sinister and seductive, and you will be blown away by the twists and turns this relationship takes. I did not see that ending coming! This was one hell of a read and has definitely moved into a top role for my best 2019 reads. I could not put this one down – ONE SITTING! If you haven’t read this one yet and are looking for something to get you out of a reading slump, or you just want to read a really damn good book, then pick this one up ASAP. But be sure to set aside some uninterrupted reading time, because once you start this book you won’t want to put it down until you finish!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Robyn Harding delivers a great read It was only going to be once. Maybe twice. She just needed a little bit of cash to pay off her roommates. And then she would quit. Natalie is an art student At NYU, struggling financially and living paycheque to paycheque with no end to the struggle in sight. But how does her friend/fellow student manage it. Shealways have such nice clothing? And be able to eat in nice restaurants? When Ava takes her to her posh apartment one day, Natalie finds out the secret that Ava has. And why Ava always has money and nice things. Ava is a sugar baby. But Natalie couldn’t do that. She isn’t a prostitute. But Ava outlines the expectations and how Natalie could control the situations and what is required in a “date”. She could get hundreds of dollars for joining someone for a drink. And sex doesn’t need to be included, unless she wants to. After giving it some thought, and circumstances that forced the issue, Natalie decides to go through with it. But no sex. And only a couple of times until she’s paid her roommates back. It seems like a simple arrangement. She can control everything. Do what she wants. See who she wants. Except she can’t. She didn’t count on emotions. She didn’t count on the hold someone could have on her. She didn’t count on not being the one in control. She didn’t count on Gabe. And before too long, Natalie is a mess, an obsessive train wreck and her life is spinning out of control. This is another smash hit by Robyn Harding. She is one author that doesn’t have a predictable style. When you read an author with multiple books, often there is a similar style and similar outcome and things are predictable. Not so with Robyn Harding. Her novels are fresh and original. Her last few have been in the psychological thriller genre and both “the party” and “her pretty face” were both excellent reads. This one is as well. We are given a glimpse into the very real life of sugar babies and sugar daddies. How they work, who are their clients, what are the expectations and how they can fail. While I don’t think I am naive by any means, I was astounded at the amount of money exchanging hands sometimes without a lot of return for their money. And while I know everything isn’t the same for everyone, it does intrigue me how people can keep emotions out of it. While Natalie may seem to be an unlikable character to many, I actually found myself liking her and having a soft spot for her. A lot of what she does is questionable but the way she is portrayed in the book, for me, I just wanted to hug her and protect her. This book was so hard to put down. While I could feel disaster happening, this book was so engrossing. I wanted to forget everything else and devour the book all at once. I will eagerly await Ms Harding’s next release. Thank you to the publisher and net galley for allowing me the privilege of reading this book by sending me a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

Editorial Reviews

“I read the book over three nights and it is the most compelling, gripping and entertaining book I’ve read in a long time. Nobody writes young people and their obsessions as authentically as Robyn and she gets to the heart of family dysfunction so well.”
