about

Focusing on the beautiful artwork of Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Zero Dawn this is an in-depth insight into a world as dangerous as it is beautiful.

The Art of Horizon Zero Dawn
is the ultimate gallery of the hotly anticipated new IP from Guerrilla Games (Killzone series). It focuses on the stunning artwork used to develop the game, and includes over 300 images, sketches, and concept art, commentary throughout from the artists and creators. This is an in-depth insight into a world as beautiful as it is dangerous.

Over 1000 years ago a cataclysm destroyed life as we know it, forcing humans to the brink of extinction. In our place machines rose, and nature took back our cities, until all that was left of our world was the rumours of the old ones and the ruins of a civilisation long past. The tribes of the new world live scattered, some small and humble, some as powerful as kings. If Aloy, an outcast and hunter, is to find her true place in this world she must combat the great robotic creatures of the land and uncover the mysteries of a lost civilisation.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Really Gorgeous This is probably among the best art books I've purchased thus far, Truthfully I haven't played this game yet, but I've been curious about it since finding out that Loish had done character designs during the development (although her art is stylistically different from the end product I highly appreciate seeing the iteration process) This may come in reverse order, but seeing the environments and everything that went into fleshing out this whole world really makes me want to just jump right into it, the only thing I may have wanted to see more of would be the early sketches, quite a lot of the art in this book are finished concepts, it feels too polished and less explorative in a sense, but all in all, this is something you'd definitely pull out of the bookshelf for a little artistic inspiration.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not what I expected! I wanted so much for this book to be on my shelf but I just could not pay for something that did not meet my expectations. I bought the book for inspiration because I was amazed by the visual concepts of this world set in far future that I've seen in the playthroughs that people post. I was very disappointed with the content of the book. Where are the final results? Where are those magnificent vistas? Action shots? I was more amazed by players screenshots that I googled than what this book had to offer. Characters and objects are detailed but the amount of environment concepts are scarce and they are vaguely depicted. It is nice to see the evolution of the characters, equipment and intelligent machines but when it came to concepts of environment the book is scarcely filled with half-finished sketch paintings... more like "impressions" of what should be.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible! Amazing artists, lovely scenes and all around well paced art book. So happy I bought it while it was on sale and ended up getting it the next day. Even if you have not played the game, just looking at the development of the main character Aloy was amazingly shown. Dark Horse Comics always does a good job.
