about

After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin.

Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king's council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she'll serve the kingdom for three years and then be granted her freedom.

Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she's bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her... but it's the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.

Then one of the other contestants turns up dead... quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wow! this novel exceeded my expectations. it was a fabulous fantasy story, and can't wait to continue with the rest of the story!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Epic fantasy novel I absolutely loved it! The first few chapters I was feeling a little iffy because it seemed too similar to the fantasy novels I've read before, but then it gets REALLY interesting and from there things just go down and it's an awesome read. make sure you're willing to buy all those SJM books though. In my opinion, they are totally worth the rereads, but since i am a little bit on the cheaper side im collecting the paperbacks. (hardcovers are way too expense for collections!!!)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An amazing start to a series! This book pulls you in. It is so interesting, i couldn't put it down! I've only read the book once so far, but I definitely plan on reading it again soon! Sarah J. Mass is an amazing author and I recommend any of her books

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Second Go Around I had previously started this series but fell off the wagon after the first book (so many books so little time), but after hearing so many great comments I reread the first and am on my way to pick up the second. The plot kept me engaged and I have become invested in Celaena as a character.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from No I find my main gripe with this series is that I constantly compare it to her A Court of Thorns and Roses trilogy, perhaps it is because this book was written so long ago but it just did not do it for me as a reader. I could not back the main character and did not enjoy the way she flip-flopped from strong woman to asshole for no reason besides just "that's how she is" without any person calling her out on it. She was the assassiniest assassin that ever assassined but she didn't DO a good job at it or do ANYTHING really. I may give this series another chance when I'm not so unimpressed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from MIND BLOWING BOOK!!!! Such a great introductory novel! the world and the characters were really well developed in this first instalment. But Sarah J Maas left so much room for this story to grow! Awesome Fantasy read!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Buy it NOW This book is insanely amazing! If you have read Maas' other series before this then you will definitely love this. I would love for her to combine both stories though! I think combining the two series would be epic but anyways they are amazing regardless and I love how there are so many books so you can keep on reading so excited to read the next ones! Fairies are exactly what I'm looking for!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from INCREDIBLE I own all of the books in this series and each time I read them they never fail to amaze me. Stunning writing, complex characters, and a storyline full of plot twists makes this one of my favorite reads of all time. Slight gore, but totally worth it in the long run. Would recommend this to absolutely anyone looking for a good read that will leave you waiting for more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing I was afraid it was a YA way too young for me, because I'm starting to get old to read YA but well... THIS WAS SO AMAZING. Wow! I must say that at first I really dislike Celaena because I found her show off a little bit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This series is everything This series is just outstanding. Already they are 5 books in and the series has just gotten better as it's gone along. Sometimes the problem with long series (more than 3 books) is that the story get stagnant/ unimaginative the longer it goes on. With this series that is simply not the case, I feel like every book just ups the ante from the last one. I'm eager to see how the series all comes to an end.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great first book I also read the novellas, the prequel, and it adds to your understanding of the main character. It was good with action and romance.

Date published: 2017-08-15
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good series, not good start I am so lucky i was warned and started the series with assassin's blade, because starting with this one would have left me completely unhappy. But since I read this one has book two it was a great continuity and it was very fun to get to know Celeana again, after her huge trauma.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything I needed This series is so great for so many reasons. It has everything I need in a book - action, strong female, romance, mystery & incredible character development. Sarah J Maas knows how to create worlds and characters like no other author i've ever read. You will not regret this series! I'm so looking forward to tower of dawn!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Re-Read by Audiobook The only issue I had was trouble adjusting to Celaena's voice because I know it as the voice of Nina in Six of Crows. Other than that, it was great getting into the world again. It's been so long, I had forgotten a lot of the minor details. For instance, how many names Celaena goes through! Already started Crown of Midnight.
Date published: 2017-08-08
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Enjoyable I'd give this more a 3.5 stars. I enjoyed it, though at times I rolled my eyes. The slight love triangle didn't really work for me because Celaena's interest in the prince seemed to pop up rather suddenly (she all of a sudden started feeling smitten around him but there were no moments that really told me why, it's like he gave her books and that was that). I believed her connection to Chaol more than her connection to Dorian.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from OH MY GOD Where do I even begin? Bad*ss female lead? Check. Lovable and well developed characters? Check. Interesting and constantly evolving plot? Check. I love this series to death. Both my lockscreen and homescreen are ToG related. I have re-read the ending to EoS more times than I should, as each time it makes me sob. (ToD please come out already) GOd I LOVE THIS SERIES. This is more of a fangirl post than a review, I've realized. Oops. This book will get you hooked, guaranteed. Give it a try, especially if you love fantasy and bas*ssery. Read this, you won't regret it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better Than I Expected True, my favorite author wrote the blurb for this book, but after having read and been less than impressed by another of SJM's novels, I really wasn't expecting much from this one. However, I was pleasantly surprised. I thoroughly enjoyed myself with this on. Celaena is a kick-butt woman whose level of sass knows no boundaries. While the men in this book came off a bit shallow and love-struck - one might even go so far as to say sex-crazed - Celaena was bold, firm and unwavering, and to see her character develop through the novel was truly amazing. Recommended for fans of high fantasy novels, girl power, and kick-butt heroines.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely enthralling! Best characters and best plot I've read in awhile! Truly 10/10

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My FAV series...ever So this is a long overdue review on ToG. This book is the beginning of a story that will literally take you everywhere, it is full of plot twists and you never really know what is going to happen. Yes, there is a love triangle in this book, but for those of you that are so against those, READ the series. You will not regret your decision.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Throne of Glass I liken the plot. I like the Prince and his friend. Celaena is okay. I hate the princess. Enjoyable fantasy that is not just a duplicate.
Date published: 2017-07-24
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Okay I liked it, but I felt that the author skipped a lot of the action scenes
Date published: 2017-07-23
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can't get enough of Celaena This book is amazing. The character are wonderful, and horrible. Celaena's a main character you can just connect with. and the Castle is just a dream. Recommend it to everyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is my favourite book in the whole wide world!!! My friend recommended this book back in middle school, and I'm so glad she did because Maas' books starting with this one have been both our favourite books. I could sit down and read it from start to end in one sitting if I just had the time. I never put it down, I highlight and mark important parts, and I try and recommend this book to everyone I meet! It may not be for some, but overall, it's hard to go wrong with this book. So full of empowering and heart-breaking moments.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from THE MOST AMAZING BOOK EVER There are no words to describe how much i love this author and series. I bought it after i read A court of Thorns and Roses and enjoyed that one a lot so i decided to give this one a try since some of my other friends read it as well. I was blown away. It is my favourite series ever, along with A court of Thorns and Roses, Sarah J Maas is the best author and writer ever. If you are thinking of reading it, do! You will not be disappointed i promise you. I love this series to death and cannot wait until the next book in the series comes out!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from OMG! LOVE THIS BOOK, AND LOVE THIS SERIES!!!! I went into this not expecting much. Just some great action and cheering for the assassin to win. Then this book threw me into a roller coaster of emotions, and a roller coaster of a plot starting with this book right here. I'm so glad I picked up this book. You will love how strong Celaena is, how bad ass, and how infuriating she can also be. The ending was so good, took me so off guard, and was so what I wanted that it left me scrambling to read the next book, then the next book, then the next book, and so on. Read this book if you enjoy fantasy tales, magic, action, a strong female, and don't mind blood, gore, and some even more gruesome themes. I'd recommend this to everyone.
Date published: 2017-06-18
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Epic fantasy with strong female lead! I picked this up and could not put it down! The wait between books in this series is agony! Sarah J Maas is a master - the plot is intricate and unexpected, the characters are complex and resonate well with readers, the writing is beautiful. I can't say enough good things about this book, this series, and this author. It's like Game of Thrones, but younger, feminist, and with fewer characters.

I had finally bought it after months of my friend trying to convince me and while I was reading it I had realized that I had been very, very wrong about that. It took me less than a day before I was rushing to the store to get the second book. It was such an amazing read, I 100% recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing! Best book ever!! Overall, this book was one of the best reads that I've ever had. It's one of those books that you start and then can't put down. I loved that the lead character is female, and Celaena has to be the strongest and most badass female character ever. There is a such a perfect balance between genres, that I don't even know what to call it. Sarah J. Maas is an amazing writer, combining fantasy and thriller with a bit of action to create the most epic story ever. She wrote the story so well that you never know what will happen next. After reading this book, books that I loved before paled drastically in comparison to the rollercoaster of a ride that is Throne of Glass.
Date published: 2017-04-24
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved it This book is the perfect balance of everything. Aelin is sassy, is completely full of herself, but can also kill a person twice her size with a fingernail. She is awesome, an amazing leading protagonist that does not need a man to save her. She has faced many hardships and has to face many more later on and each of her journeys draws in readers more and more.
Date published: 2017-04-24
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Promising Start This is a promising start to a new series. Celaena is quite stubborn, juvenile and even cocky but it's nice to see her becoming a little more humble as she gets put through each trial and how the friendship around her changes her. There seems more to the story than just a simple trial and I can see the start of a rather epic fantasy story taking shape.
Date published: 2017-04-24
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the lead character I just love how the female lead Cealena is a literal badass, I mean you can't get better than her. You also see lots of character developpement. This one of those characters where the weakness is obvious and I like it when they don't make the character perfect. This book also has a love triangle which normally I hate but once I got to know the two other characters, I just couldn't decide, I loved them both so much. Two cons would that the pronouciations were hard but never fear there was a pronounciation guide at the end of the book. Second con: the story was kind of predictable. But other then that it was great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVED IT! Despite predicting one of the plot points at the beginning, the story was filled with twists I didn't expect despite resembling a classic. Definitely one of my all time favourite books!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Expected More This book sounded like an instant hit to me. An assassin, murder, danger, with a hint of romance, what's not to like? It was only after I read it that I became disappointed. Celaena didn't seem much like an assassin to me, and it wasn't because she favored books, and the piano, something I found to be interesting. It's because most of the story revolved around Celaena wearing pretty dresses, and flirting with Chaol and Dorian. There wasn't much of the daring assassin I expected. Still, the setting and the supernatural element intrigued me along with the plotline.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Couldn't put it down! This book was impossible to put down! I devoured it in one sitting!! The characters were amazing and so real but so fantastical at the same time!! The story unraveled and I found myself just wanting to go back to the beginning and start all over again... It's the kind of book you can just read over and over again. The triangle is just ahhh, I never knew who to root for and ship Celaena with!! Honestly I still don't!! The characters are so easy to fall in love with!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun and interesting read I bought this because it is very popular. I enjoyed reading this book, there were some moments I rolled my eyes. I liked that there were challenges for the main character and other side things were happening. It does revolve heavily on the love triangle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOOOOVED THIS! Wow! I can't believe it took me this long to pick this book up! It was fantastic! I was hesitant to read this because I'm weird and apparently afraid of fantasy, but OH MY GOD IT WAS AMAZING. I loved it so much. I loved Celaena. I looooooved Chaol. I loved the slow burn of the relationships, I loved the pacing of the story and the mystery of what was going on with all the deaths, I loved the excitement at the end, and the mysterious new information we got at the end! AH! So good. I'm so glad I finally read this. Oh my god. Seriously.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This Entire Series is AMAZING I will read anything by Sarah J. Maas. Her writing does not disappoint, and Throne of Glass is what started it all. I absolutely loved this book. The world-building and the characters were absolutely amazing, and the plot was paced in such a way that it's hard to put down this book. Since this one, I have read the others, and the journey Celaena goes on is just as epic as Frodo's in The Lord of the Rings. I admire SJM for creating such a strong female character, and I look forward to seeing how she concludes this story in the last Throne of Glass instalment. I 100% recommend this entire series. Way to go, SJM!

I have since then completed the excruciating task of waiting for the rest of the series to be released, and have loved every single one! I love the characters and the story line is thrilling. If you are looking for something to keep you on your toes, this is the book for you.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazing series! I started the Throne of Glass series just a couple weeks ago and I'm so glad I did. It is such a fast paced book, created in such a unique world. Sarah J Maas gives us such a unique protagonist who is unlike the usual heroines of ya novels. This definitely a great read, with amazing turns that will keep you guessing till the very end.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent fantasy I have read tons of YA fantasy, and i will say that this one is at least a bit different. my biggest complaint is the love triangle, why why why do so many YA books have a love triangle!Otherwise I enjoyed it, action, intrigue and evil. Its a great quick read and is part of a series so if you enjoy it there are more to come! #plumreviews

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not Great But Good When I first cracked this book I didn't love it. But I kept reading because I hate leaving a DNF on my shelf and in the end I wanted to read the next book. It wasn't bad but it's definitely not a favourite on my shelf of YA fantasies. #plumreview

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Main character is an "assassin" How can we acknowledge her assassin skills when all she does is fret about her appearances, dresses and books and spends the whole book not doing "assassin stuff"? I'm sorry but this is marketed as featured a badass character while what she actually is is an idiot who makes bad decisions because irrelevant stuff (read: dresses) captured her attention.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fully Immersed This book was definitely an amazing read. I felt as if I were in this world as well with Celaena the whole time. I could not put the book down and read into all hours of the night. I absolutely loved the character development and her relationships with all the characters. The only thing that I could have had more of was Nox. I loved him and was pretty sad he wasn't around too much. I could only hope that I see him again sometime in the future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from YOU CAN NOT MISS OUT ON THIS BOOK This book is an amazing fantasy thriller that will keep you on your toes and make you not want to put it down. I recommend not knowing basically anything about the story line before picking it up. Going in not knowing leaves you un-prepared and shocked at the twist and turns. All you really need to know is the book follows a badass female and yes she is awesome and everything a protagonist should be.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Book! I liked this book at first... Then it hit me how much I loved it after finishing! Some advice that I can give throughout any of Sarah's books is how her series ALWAYS get better after the first book. So much development and plot twist that keep the reader interested!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing book I loved this book, such a good series. The girl I talked to when I bought Throne of Glass gushed over the series as well. I will be re-reading this series for sure. Becoming the enemy king's champion can be complicated and makes for compelling story lines. Lots of excitement. #plumreview

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excited for the series I have to agree with other reviews in that this book is a little slow, but I have faith that the rest of the series picks up and moves at a faster pace. With that being said, I really did like this book. I love the characters, and really am looking forward to reading the rest; I've purchased the second book before I even finished the first :)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty good fantasy Really enjoyed this book - it's great for fans of Poison Study as it has a similarly strong female lead. I didn't love the aspects of love in this novel as much as I feel like it detracted from the story as a whole. Overall, great book.
