From Bram Stoker Winner Douglas Clegg comes a horror novella of roadside terror! The signs all along the desert highway read Come See the Mystery! But some mysteries should remain buried forever.

"Douglas Clegg blends a unique and macabre imagination with a genuine gift for developing his characters and presenting the reader with a vivid story that will separate the timid from their sleep and the bold from their complacency whenever they next visit a sideshow or museum mummy display!" - Midwest Book Review.

"Clegg takes the idea of a cheapjack tourist hustle for a decrepit gas station in middle-of-nowhere Arizona and turns it into a terrifying quick punch of horror for his readers…" - Alternate Reality Web Zine Reviews.

"I couldn't put this book down. It grabbed me on the first page and wouldn't let go. I ended up reading most of the night away. I had a stiff neck and only got a few hours sleep, but it was worth it. The Attraction has an original plot and very believable characters. The story moves at an incredible rate and never lags." - Horror World Reviews.

Josh is into Bronwyn, Griff is into Tammy, Ziggy's into weed, and Dave Olshaker wants to get his girl back from Griff. But that's not all they have to worry about.

It's Spring Break, and Bronwyn needs to get to L.A. for reasons that annoy her, Griff and Tammy want to go to the beach and party, Ziggy wants to score, and Josh just wants a reason to get out on the road.

When they end up with a flat tire, stuck out in an Arizona hellhole, they find out about the real attraction.

The signs all over the desert highway: "Come See the Mystery!" "You're Near the Mystery!" "The Mystery of the Universe is Two Miles Away at the Brake Down Palace Gas and Sundries!"

Now, because Charlie Goodrow tells this story to anyone who stops for a fill-up, he's sold a lot of tickets to the back of his shop, where the Mystery of the Universe, the Mummified Remains of the Ancient Flesh-Scraper, is there for all to see.

Behind curtains, in a glass case, lies this creature.

Above it, tacked on the wall: "Do Not Touch. Do Not Feed."

"Some freak put this together," Ziggy says.

"Let's feed it," Griff says.

And then, the nightmare begins.

About the Author

Douglas Clegg wrote The Attraction as a Drive-In Movie kind of horror novella, a fast-paced monster story, based on a road trip across the desert in Arizona in the early 2000s, and stopovers at various roadside attractions over the years. This is a slightly revised version of the limited edition hardcover from Delirium Press published in 2004 and from the Leisure Books paperback of 2006.
