Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pastor's wife I first read Dr. Stanley's book ''The Blessings of Brokeness'' over 25 yrs. ago. I had been through a brutal divorce (yes, God does forgive. . . & even call into His ministry those who are divorced. . . as my husband's first marriage was annulled) and I was visiting my friend in Florida. She had a condo right on the beach and had to teach that day, so I intended to soak up some sun and sand. However, God had other plans. . . it rained. . . all day! I had exhausted her videos, and was walking past her book shelf when this title, ''The Blessings of Brokenness'' reached out & grabbed me. I began to read about noon and by the time she came home was almost finished with the book. I was so excited to see her and ask her if she had read it. . . but she saw it in my hand first and said she was so glad I had found it because she wanted to send it home with me. well, I took the book home and it has been re-read by me countless times, plus I have shared it with others a great number of times. When you are finally broken, with no one else or nothing left, to turn to, that is when you are of the greatest use, or most benefit of or to God. And this book shows you this, explains it, gives examples of it in the Bible and life today. I have used this book, second only to the first book, ''The Bible'', more myself and not only recommended but put in the hands of people who need it. I highly recommend it for everyone! terri frederick

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must-read for any crying soul! As I was going through my life’s toughest of challenges, caused perhaps due to my own karma, I received the following piece of advice repeatedly from friends and family: “Turn to God”. One day, my wife handed me this book, borrowing it from the local library. The day I began to read it seemed like the day of awakening of my spirit. The author, Charles Stanley explains first why there is suffering in life and then why and how to surrender to the will of God and let the divine forces work for you and through you. I took comfort in knowing that even he had gone through similar pain and helplessness, a fellow human who has dedicated his life to the service of God and humanity. The book was a timely blessing. A must-read for any crying soul!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lost but now found. I was given this treasure by my mother during a particularily difficult time. After sitting on my shelf for a year, I began to read it and was gripped by the challenges and comforts it offered. As time went on, I would return to it when I needed to make sense out of life. This text was one of the books I would never lend out unless it was to someone I trusted. Needless to say, it was to leave my possession and not return, finding a home with one in greater need whom I have lost touch with. I have longed to have my copy back, and now, am overjoyed that Chapters has it in stock. As it was a gift to me, and as I am not great at memorizing authors, I had thought it was lost forever! This book is definitely a challenge to our perception of life trials as periods for pity and inertia. God truly has a plan and a great love for us.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 10 Thumbs Up! I love Dr. Stanley. This book is so amazing. Not very often do I get through "serious" books. I'm a fiction reader, but this book brought me through the toughest time of my life. This book helped me to know that it was OK that I was hurting and that victory was around the corner! READ IT!!!

In a day when there is so much emphasis on prosperity, success, and happiness, being broken is the last thing we want. But for those who want to follow God with all their heart, brokenness becomes a doorway to greater intimacy with God and a more powerful personal ministry.According to Dr.Charles Stanley, brokenness is the path to blessing. He says, "One thing I have discovered is that brokenness brings some of God's greatest blessings and periods of time when our lives are the most fruitful". Brokenness is God's way of dealing with our self-life, our desire for independence, and for control of our own life.Stanley says that God breaks us for two reasons: to help become spiritually mature and to prepare us for ministry. And when we allow God to have his way and embrace our brokenness, we discover a new sense of freedom and power. The Blessings Brokenness helps those who are hurting make sense of why God allows us to be broken. 'After sitting under Charles Stanley's teaching for more than 25 years, I can honestly say his series on brokenness has had a greater impact in my life than any series I have ever heard him preach.' -- James Reimann, Editor
