The gripping sequel to New York Times bestselling fantasy epic The Black Prism from Brent Weeks.

Gavin Guile is dying.

He'd thought he had five years left--now he has less than one. With fifty thousand refugees, a bastard son, and an ex-fiancée who may have learned his darkest secret, Gavin has problems on every side. All magic in the world is running wild and threatens to destroy the Seven Satrapies. Worst of all, the old gods are being reborn, and their army of color wights is unstoppable. The only salvation may be the brother whose freedom and life Gavin stole sixteen years ago.

Read the second book in Brent Weeks's blockbuster epic fantasy series that had Peter V. Brett saying, "Brent Weeks is so good, it's starting to tick me off!"

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better than The Black Prism I gotta say, as much as I enjoyed this one more than The Black Prism, I am rating it the same. Because I wasn't a fan of giving the reader the idea that something was going to happen and going in the opposite direction just for shits and giggles, basically. And that happened two or three times in this one, in my opinion. I thought the new characters introduced were enough to switch up the plot a bit into a new direction. But at the same time I am not a fan of the direction this one went it. I thought there was a lot more action and less info dumping which made it infinitely more interesting than The Black Prism. I liked the turn that Liv took in this one and I hope we get to see more from her pov in the next one as well. I think it is interesting to see things from both sides of the story because we get to see more of the "Truth" and make decisions for ourselves. I am excited to see where the story goes from here, especially with the cliffhanger! Overall: 4/5 stars. What a sequel and what a cliffhanger. The characters and the world only got more interesting and even better developed. While a lot of fantasy sequels fall short or take too long to develop into the main plot, that does not happen in this series. Definitely a recommendation for anyone who likes fantasy/magic books.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The blinding knife This incredible scribe continues to grow in his craft. A great blend of action, intrigue, and gray area characters that avoid being basic fantasy clichés and become flawed people you can't help to read more about. I can't recommend this book highly enough or any book done by this magnificent author.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing If you love fantasy novels you should definitely give Brent Weeks a read. He's funny, witty and had completely inthralled. I suggest reading his "Night Angel" trilogy first. Perfection!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible. The first book was good, but this was incredible. Extremely well written, as always, but the subtle twists in story seem to trip you up just enough that you never see the main plot coming. Brent Weeks writes like a Blackguard fights.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome! Another fantastic novel from Brent Weeks. The story kept me enthralled throughout; I couldn't wait to find out what happened next. The the questions left unanswered, and the references to other mysteries that haven't yet been explored, leaves me clamoring for the next book in the series. I highly recommend this series for fans of the Fantasy genre.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved it Amazing series so far. Only complaint is that the foreshadowing is pretty heavy handed

Rated 4 out of 5 by from B+ Good book, but didn't hold my attention nearly as much as the Night Angel Trilogy

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The Blinding Knife It took me awhile to finally get to this book but boy am I ever glad that I did. This novel takes off right from where the second ended. All the build up finally came together in this book for me. I found the storyline much more dynamic and interesting and I LOVED the character progression. The characters became much more interesting to me and I couldn't wait to keep reading the book to see what would happen to them next. I thought this was much better than the first book and would definitely recommend it.
