Finally, western medicine is catching up to what alternative medicine has been saying.  The research that Dr.Hyman provides is so valuable for our health.  The meals are tasty and he offers various ways to connect for support.  I followed the detox (although I cheated in the mornings - coffee w/maple syrup & a bit of milk ) for 8 days and lost 5 pounds.  I will be more diligent after my holidays.

With studies and scientific research he explains the additives in our food in a simple, easy to understand manner. His approach is simple. Don't treat the symptom, treat the whole body. If something doesn't feel right or normal, figure out what the body is lacking (or had too much of) and restore balance through proper nutrition and exercise, as well as getting enough sleep and being aware of your mental and emotional state. I have severe allergies (nuts) and sensitivities so I wasn't able to follow his plan 100% but I did probably 85% and I lost 10 lbs in 10 days (I have maybe 50 to lose). But it's more than that. For just 10 days, no alcohol, coffee, sugar, smoking, white processed food, junk food etc. For me, sugar - chocolate - was the big one but I didn't have any headaches or sugar crashes. I felt good the entire time. Eat low carb veggies, lean meats, lots of water...real food to nourish your body for 10 days. Then have a detox bath (epson salts, baking soda, lavender essential oil (and I added grapeseed oil). I slept soundly for 8 hours something I haven't done in years. I have had chronic sinus for over 20 years, by day 3 I could fully breathe. My sugar and blood pressure drastically decreased as it the symptoms of diabetes and pcos. Even my hormones regulated. I didn't tell my colleagues and by day 10, one said my skin was simply radiant. And I went down a pant size and bra size. The only down side of the book was that I thought the recipes could have been better so I just ate baked broccoli with garlic and ginger, roasted cabbage, salad, grilled meat etc. I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to lose weight, sleep better, reduce their allergies, get rid of the bloating/tired feeling etc. It makes you aware of how much packaged food we consume. Get back to the basics. If you can pick it, pluck it, pull it or milk it, then it's real food. We all know what to eat and what not to eat but this book will give you the jump start that you need by telling you the truth about what we are putting into our precious bodies and feeding our kids. I would have bought it just for the information. However, there was no better feeling than going to work in my skinny jeans that I haven't seen for 15 years and being told I looked radiant. I will never go back to all that processed food and feeling horrible. I had forgotten what feeling energetic, rested and alive felt like. This one is a keeper.
