On the heels of the wildly popular The Gatheringcomes the second in the "Darkness Rising" YA trilogy from NYT bestselling author Kelley Armstrong.
Maya Delaney's paw-print birthmark is the mark of what she truly is--a skin-walker. She can run faster, climb higher, and see better than nearly everyone else. Experiencing intense connections with the animals that roam the woods outside her home, Maya knows it's only a matter of time before she's able to Shift and become one of them. And she believes there may be others in her small town with surprising talents.
Now, Maya and her friends have been forced to flee from their homes during a forest fire they suspect was deliberately set. Then they're kidnapped, and after a chilling helicopter crash, they find themselves in the Vancouver Island wilderness with nothing but their extraordinary abilities to help them get back home.

From the Hardcover edition.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Curiosity Killed The Cat ! I really enjoyed this follow book, can't wait to see where it goes from here ! Loving Maya's character. I love animals, it's super cool the setting of this series, and Maya taking care of animals on the forest reserve. Maya's circumstances are super unique and very fascinating (don't want to spoil anything)! I adore Kelley Armstrong, so amazing !!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Despite the Forumalic Writing I typically dislike formulaic writing. it smacks of laziness. This series is an example of the "Armstrong" formula. Namely, top secret supernatural corporations, genetic experimentation, and deep family secrets. This was an enjoyable read despite the above. My biggest complaint is that these books have lacked the depth seen in Armstrong's other works, even the Darkest Powers series. I felt those books in particular had more grit and realism than these have shown thus far. Alas, this is an enjoyable, fast paced, read.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Darkness Rising Trilogy This is the second trilogy I have read by Kelley Armstrong, and love the way she has meshed the two trilogies together. The story is about young supernatural beings who are housed and studied by scientists without their knowledge from the time they are small children. In the meantime the young supernaturals figure out who they are what they are capable of and escape from captivity. The youngsters are inventive and determined to see a way out of their captivity and to organize themselves to avert recapture. The twist and turns of the stories are mesmerizing, you will enjoy it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Its good I have read kellys other series, the one with Chloe Saunders. But the darkness rising is more realistic. I mean teens on the run; the other series had mediums, werewolves and so on . the only thing that I do not appreciate is that Kelly uses the same names like Dr.Davidoff, and the genius project. Is the phoenix project related to the genius project that took place in the other series? Those are all my concerns about the book other than that it is outstanding! :-)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The calling Beautiful second book. Very good read. I love how the character developments are ticking along. I have to say Sam is one of my faves. Just when you think she's bat crap crazy if turns out someone else is. Can't wait to finish the third book. It'll be my first trilogy read by ebook.
