about

Having fun while learning is essential for children and that is exactly what The Canucks offers. Razzberry Publishing recognizes that children have a much easier time learning and remembering when they are enjoying what they are doing.

The Canucks allows children to become familiar with the names of the provinces and territories in Canada, as each of the thirteen fun animal characters are named the same as the region that they represent.

This, the first in a series of fourteen books, takes place in Ottawa, during Winterlude. (The following thirteen will each feature one of the country's provinces or territories and the character who is from there.)

The Canucks incorporates current tools of communication in the story, such as conference calling and cell phones, which the young readers of today will relate to.

Each character, named for their province or territory, enter into this story in the order that they came to be a part of Canada as we know it today. The cover shows the characters standing in the shape of Canada as a useful tool for kids to remember the order in which the provinces and territories are situated.

All of this and more is rolled into a great story with new, exciting friendships and exploring a huge winter festival. Learning has never been so much fun.

Extra Content

From the Author

Just imagine . . . a fun book, based on Canadian geography that actually helps your kids to retain some of the information that is a component of the school curriculum! Impossible you say? Well then, you need to read The Canucks. While travelling from school to school, doing workshops and readings, I have discovered that kids are having a difficult time retaining the Canadian content from their geography or social studies classes. Not terribly exciting material . . . until now. The Canucks is a fun story that allows the reader to become familiar with the names of the Canadian provinces and territories. Each of the thirteen characters in the book is named after one of Canada's provinces or territories and they enter into the story in the order that their region came to be a part of Canada as we know it today. This story takes place in Canada's capital city, Ottawa. As the characters explore the city during Winterlude, the reader gets to learn about some of the great things that there are to do in Ottawa. All of this and more wrapped up in a fantastic, fun story!

Bookclub Guide

The Canucks is the first in a series of 14 books designed to assist children from grades 1-4 with Canadian geography. The first book introduces the thirteen new animal characters; each one chosen to represent the province or territory that they are from. To further aid the reader, the character also has the same name as the province or territory that they come from. This allows the reader to become familiar with the names around Canada and some of the animals that you can find in each of its divisions. The first book is packed with lots of information about the country and the reader will enjoy the adventure of exploring Ottawa, during Winterlude. The following thirteen books will each feature one province or territory and some of the cool things that it has to offer. Learning has never been so much fun!
