about

Enjoy another witty, emotional book in New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Erica Ridley’s fan-favorite Dukes of War regency romance series!

Captain Xavier Grey’s body is back amongst the beau monde, but his mind cannot break free from the horrors of war. His friends try to help him find peace. He knows he doesn’t deserve it. Just like he doesn't deserve the attentions of the sultry bluestocking intent on seducing him into bed...

Spinster Jane Downing wants off the shelf and into the arms of a hot-blooded man. Specifically, the dark and dangerous Captain Grey. She may not be destined to be his wife, but nothing will stop her from being his mistress. She could quote classical Greek by the age of four. How hard can it be to learn the language of love?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I love, love, LOVE Jane. I love, love, LOVE Jane. With Xavier though she is a hoot. She pokes at him just enough to get him riled; it’s so much fun seeing her try to seduce him. And the glimpses we get into her character are priceless. The surprises she leaves him when she goes home are just the perfect capsulation of what kind of person she is – subtle humor, but with a playful streak. She’s smart, sassy, and sadly overlooked. Xavier came back from war with a lot of baggage, but a few days alone with Jane means that his darkest secrets and desires will be brought into the open. As appealing as she is to readers, she’s even more so to him and closes quarters make her very hard to resist … but it sure is a blast to see him try :) Full of humor and heart, a devil cat and whimsical woodland creatures, a heroine looking to sin and a hero determined to honorably resist, The Captain’s Bluestocking Mistress is a historical romance that can’t be beat. It is fantastically written, with great flow and addictive characters. The story just flew by and I absolutely could not put it down until I was done. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Heartwarming and Enticing! Expressive characters and heartfelt dialog surround this engaging historical romance. What's it like to be invisible? Jane Dowling knows too well. She's a 24 year old spinster whose only friends have (until lately), been her books and her brother. Now she has Lady Grace as a friend; though she doesn't see her often since Grace married. Jane hates going out into society because she's forgettable! Seeing the love and affecton Grace and her husband share has her longing for someone to see her that way, even once! She's been thinking of one man. And she has a plan. It involves... Captain Xavier Grey returned from the war a "hollow husk of a man, a beautiful and broken" man. He believes himself evil for his war actions and can't forgive himself. He's hidden himself at his cottage and plans to stay there. One snowy day, there was a knock upon his door; who could that be? Only one person knows where he lives! He opens the door to find... Open the pages of this delightful book to find out! You'll have a ball learning the answers! I received this book free for an honest review.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Heartwarming. I received an ARC of The Captain's Bluestocking Mistress by Erica Ridley. This story contains a strong romance with a heartwarming twist. Xavier is a soldier plagued by the things he has witnessed and could not prevent. Jane is a spinster with limited options. Both are searching for something. Maybe they can find what they seek with each other. Am a fan of Erica Ridley.
