World Fantasy Award winner Patricia A. McKillip tells "an enchanting fantasy that is tinged with realism and romance." (School Library Journal)

Since the day her father's fishing boat returned without him, Peri and her mother have mourned his loss. Her mother sinks into a deep depression and spends her days gazing out at the sea. Unable to control her anger and sadness any longer, Peri uses the small magic she knows to hex the sea. And suddenly into her drab life come the King's sons—changelings with strange ties to the underwater kingdom—a young magician, and, finally, love.

"McKillip is a master storyteller; her tale rings true as if it were being told from memory."—Kirkus Reviews, pointer review

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Short and sweet but oh so worth it! I'll admit Patricia A. McKillip is one of my favorites, but it always impresses me to see how even when she writes something a lot shorter than usual it turns out to be a masterpiece. This story was beautiful! If you're looking for a quick but satisfying magical read this is definitely it! #plumreview

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely! Although more simple, Changeling Sea does carry the same beauty of Mckillips other works. Ending this story was like waking from a dream (a feeling one becomes accustomed to after reading a few Mckillip books) in which the magic of the sea had the power to trap mortals. A dark and fairytale like story of magic black pearls, clever magicians and hexes, pearl castles and sea-monsters trapped by chains of gold, sea-bound princes and changeling sons, and a brave young woman who holds more power then she believes. Enjoy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Breath of fresh air That is exactly what this book is, a breath of fresh air. So much complex thinking and actions simplified to a pure drop of crystal water...........that is how I look at Changeling Sea. Small but carries a punch.

Editorial Reviews

"McKillip is a master storyteller; her tale rings true as if it were being told from memory."—Kirkus Reviews, pointer review"Beautifully sustained metaphors and an even tone make this fantasy, like McKillip's The Forgotten Beasts of Eld, a pleasure to read. Further, McKillip's deft characterization and smooth, tender resolution result in a memorable, often poignant novel."—Publishers Weekly"With a touch of romance, Patricia McKillip weaves an enchanting tale that will especially appeal to young ladies, ages ten to thirteen. The author captures a world that lies somewhere between reality and fantasy. She also puts a new twist on the old adage that true love conquers all."—Children's Literature "An enchanting fantasy that is tinged with realism and romance . . .  Rewarding and engaging."—School Library Journal
