Dr. Kilgo has been a delegate to five General Conferences of the M. E. Church, South, and was a delegate to the Ecumenical Conference which met in London in 1901. He was fraternal messenger to the General Conference of the M. E. Church held in Los Angeles, California, in 1904. His address 011 that occasion gave him a national reputation as an orator of consummate ability. He was elected Bishop at Asheville in 1910.
