The acclaimed artist Brom brilliantly displays his multiple extraordinary talents in The Child Thief—a spellbinding re-imagining of the beloved Peter Pan story that carries readers through the perilous mist separating our world from the realm of Faerie. As Gregory Maguire did with his New York Times bestselling Wicked novels, Brom takes a classic children’s tale and turns it inside-out, painting a Neverland that, like Maguire’s Oz, is darker, richer, more complex than innocent world J.M. Barrie originally conceived. An ingeniously executed literary feat, illustrated with Brom’s sumptuous artwork, The Child Thief is contemporary fantasy at its finest—casting Peter Pan, the Lost Boys, even Captain Hook and his crew in a breathtaking new light.

Over the past few decades, Brom has lent his distinctive vision to all facets of the creative industries, from novels and games to comics and film. In addition toThe Child Thief, he is the author of two award-winning illustrated horror novels,The PluckerandThe Devil's Rose. Brom is currently kept in a dank cellar somewhere just outside...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Couldn't Put it Down As a child, Peter Pan was one of my favourite cartoons. So it was interesting to read this retelling of children's story. This dark retelling is so real. Combined with my childhood memories of this story, my heart actually ached for these characters! This is one of the most haunting novels I've ever read.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The real and sinister Peter Pan Bravo Brom! This dark fantasy is the fairy tale that would haunt your childhood nightmares. This book is not for young readers, as it's deliciously gory, violent and horrific. Your heart will race as Nick (protagonist) is charmed by Peter and is swallowed into the abyss of Neverland.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All-Time Favorite! "...she would have known that there is always something left to lose." The Child Thief is an extremely addictive fantasy that is exceedingly graphic and disturbing with a contorted inescapable sadness. Brom has evolved from being an engaging to definable favourite author of mine, with this absolute Must Read. "...this whole situation was beyond hopeless, it was ridiculous. If not so tragic, it would be laughable. Both sides so blinded by fear and hate of each other that they couldn't see they were all fighting for the same thing..." While fully indulging in this dark and twisted retelling of Peter Pan, I found myself conflicted by the golden-eyed boy. Peter strained my tolerance to distinguish if he was the hero or just as monstrous as the: flesh eaters, pixies, fairies, witches, and bloodthirsty humans. An antihero, flawed and complex, Love It!
