That it is powerfully written no one acquainted with Dr. Lee's vigorous and even slashing style would for a moment dispute. The subject is one which, in the hands of a less able or more moderate man, would form the groundwork of a polemic essay of a tedious, or, perhaps, mediocre character. Nothing is really more irritating in the discussion of a matter on which the religious element is paramount than an assumed moderation which Jis not genuine, or an overweening anxiety to avoid wounding the feelings of the very individuals whom it is sought to discredit. With these failings Dr. Lee certainly cannot be charged.
