After years in the wilds, Lenk and his companions have come to the city that serves as the world's beating heart.
The great charnel house where men die surer than any wilderness. They've come to claim payment for creatures slain, blood spilled at the behest of a powerful holy man.
And Lenk has come to lay down his sword for good.
But this is no place to escape demons.
Sam Sykes is the author of the acclaimedTome of the Undergates, a vast and sprawling story of adventure, demons, madness and carnage. He lives in Arizona. He once punched an ostrich. What a great guy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Took a while but epic proportions This is a very well written story with a complete and corrupt world to lose yourself in. The characters are flawed, but very likeable. They have back stories To round them out. Even the side characters involve creatures with complex lives. It took a while to get the plot moving...probably half way through the novel due to the complexity and level of detail. It feels like an epic story has started here... not unlike Lord of the Rings ... Much less heroic heroes though!
