Ever blessed Jehovah, who art from everlasting God, the Creator and Preserver of all men, the God in whose hand our breath is, and whose are all our ways, we beseech thee to have mercy upon us, and cause the light of thy countenance to shine upon us. Oh draw near to us in tender mercy, and visit us with the light and the power of thy Holy Spirit. We have no merit of our own to plead before thee, for we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; we all do fade as a leaf, and our iniquities like the wind have taken us away. But we plead the righteousness of our Great Surety, as the ground of our hope and of our confidence. In him alone we have righteousness and strength. See God our shield, and look upon us in the face of thine Anointed. We bless thee, 0 Lord, for the precious privilege we now enjoy. May our meditations be of Him who has left us a commandment, that we should do this in remembrance of him! Blessed Jesus! can we ever forget thee?
