Thousands of books have been written about the latest and greatest diets that will help people lose weight and improve health. But a key element in any successful nutritional health program is a tried-and-true method that most people haven’t thought about—yet it could be revolutionary for taking health to the next level. This ancient secret is fasting.

Fasting is not about starving oneself. When done right, it’s an incredibly effective therapeutic approach that produces amazing results regardless of diet plan. In fact, Toronto-based nephrologist Dr. Jason Fung has used a variety of fasting protocols with more than 1,000 patients, with fantastic success. In The Complete Guide to Fasting, he has teamed up with international bestselling author and veteran health podcaster Jimmy Moore to explain what fasting is really about, why it’s so important, and how to fast in a way that improves health. Together, they make fasting as a therapeutic approach both practical and easy to understand.

The Complete Guide to Fasting explains:

• why fasting is actually good for health
• who can benefit from fasting (and who won’t)
• the history of fasting
• the various ways to fast: intermittent, alternate-day, and extended fasting
• what to expect when starting to fast
• how to track progress while fasting
• the weight loss effects of fasting
• how to ward off potential negative effects from fasting

The book also provides tools to help readers get started and get through their fasts, including a 7-Day Kick-Start Fasting Plan and healing liquid recipes.
Dr. Jason Fung earned his medical degree at the University of Toronto, where he also completed his internal medicine residency before heading to UCLA for a fellowship in nephrology (a branch of medicine concerned with the kidneys). He currently practices as a kidney specialist in Toronto. During the course of treating thousands of pat...

I bought this book to be more knowledgeable with fasting not so much for the recipes so I didn't try the recipes yet. The information presented very clear and simple, feels like you in good hands.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from EXCELLENT book! My boyfriend has a type of autoimmune disease just like the author of this book. Her story was inspiring and true - everything you feel comes right down to your diet. So, we bought this book and every recipe we have tried thus far is DELICIOUS!! I've tried gluten free bread at restaurants so I expected the bread being gluten AND wheat free in this book to be just as bland. Not at all!! Best bread I've ever had. This new eating lifestyle has definitely had a positive effect on my boyfriend and even myself who doesn't need to cut out gluten or wheat. Buy this book and you will not be disappointed. I only have this book by her and do plan on buying her first one to try out this recipes too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great healthy recipes I bought this book, and I was so happy with it that I bought two more for friends. It is the best book cookbook I have now. Especially with dietary restrictions, I have tried many other books and this one beats all the others.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing. This book is hands down the best cookbook I own (and I own a lot of cookbooks!) I agree with the reviewer who mentioned the treat to actual meal ratio, but I think that authors of "specialty" cookbooks like this (vegan, paleo, gluten free) all tend to overdo the sweets section. It's like they're trying to say "don't worry! you can live a normal life!" ha ha. Overall verdict though: I could not do without this beautiful book :)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Couldn't have gone Paleo without it! I bought this cookbook a month ago when I decided to go Paleo. All of the recipes I have tried are excellent. I use this cookbook almost every day as I am a young chef and don't have much experience with cooking.  The only negative aspect I could find with the book is that the author doesn't offer any substitutes for ingredients that may be hard to find (which sometimes is the case in Canada).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Delicious recipes, beautiful layout and photos I just received this in the mail and I love it! One of my favourite features is the picture index at the back. The entire recipe index by picture! Brilliant! I'm very visual and like to see the meals I want to make. She makes delicious renditions of traditional foods. They work because she has such a passion for cooking, and didn't want to miss out on her favourite foods. She has adapted them brilliantly. This is a must have for anyone, not just Paleo!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Interesting recipes I agree with the previous reviewer, this a a good go-to book for special treats - but I also think it is a good book to use when transitioning from non-Paleo to Paleo foods. I can't imagine going cold turkey with my 10 year old, so this book has good recipes to introduce him to a new way of eating. He is a big fan of the n'oatmeal cookies and the lemon meringue pie, and this weekend we may whip up a batch of cupcakes! And yes, are the foods "really" Paleo, which relies more on fresh fruit, veg and pastured meat etc, perhaps not, but I'd like to eat Paleo, and occasionally have a chocolate cupcake - so this book works for me!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A good 'special occasion' Paleo cookbook I was really excited to get this book, however, once I read through it, I was a little disappointed at the ratio of 'treat' recipes to main meal and side dish recipes.  This will be my go to book for special occasions rather than a useful everyday cookbook.
