about

The complete collection of Sherlock Holmes’s adventures in crime, including all four novels and fifty-six short stories featuring Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic hero

Volume I includes the early novel A Study in Scarlet, which introduced the eccentric genius of Sherlock Holmes to the world. This baffling murder mystery, with the cryptic word Rache written in blood, first brought Holmes together with Dr. John Watson. Next, The Sign of Four presents Holmes’s famous “seven percent solution” and the strange puzzle of Mary Morstan in the quintessential locked-room mystery. Also included are Holmes’s feats of extraordinary detection in such famous cases as “The Adventure of the Speckled Band,” “The Musgrave Ritual,” and “The Five Orange Pips.”

Volume II begins with The Hound of the Baskervilles, a haunting novel of murder on eerie Grimpen Moor, which has rightly earned its reputation as the finest murder mystery ever written. The Valley of Fear matches Holmes against his archenemy, the master of imaginative crime, Professor Moriarty. In addition, the loyal Dr. Watson has faithfully recorded Holmes’s exploits from “The Adventure of the Red Circle” to the twelve baffling enigmas from The Case Book of Sherlock Holmes.

Conan Doyle’s incomparable tales bring to life a Victorian England of horse-drawn cabs, fogs, and the famous lodgings at 221B Baker Street, where for more than forty years Sherlock Holmes earned his undisputed reputation as the greatest fictional detective of all time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Among the Greatest Works of Fiction Ever Written Sherlock Holmes is THE MOST FAMOUS literary character of all time, making appearences in more books, movies and television shows than any other fictional character in history. He's so realisitic that the British readers in Doyle's day actually thought he was real and that Doyle just took accounts of the real Sherlock Holmes' cases and made them into stories. The Sherlock Holmes series has influenced every great mystery writer after Doyle, including the renowned Agatha Christie. When Doyle killed off Holmes in one of his stories, an enraged public protested until Doyle was forced to revive the legendary character. That's how great Sherlock Holmes is. And one reason you'll love these stories as much as me is that in a day when cheap CSI knock-offs (shows, movies and books) are solving crime with all this technology and not logic, like DNA tracking, Holmes uses his ingenius wit, logic, and practicality to solve them. The practical information you can pick up from Holmes' methods is just plain staggering. Consider this: soon after learning that Holmes can identify the difference between hundreds of kinds of tabacco to identify a criminal (because in Doyle's day, tabacco was a very unique mark of the person), the REAL London police force copied the fictional Sherlock Holmes' methods to solve their crimes. This was how amazing a writer Doyle was. He was quite ahead of his time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Ultimate Super Sleuth Collection! Doyle wrote several novel-length books, but is particularly famous for his 56 short stories, starring Sherlock Holmes. This collection contains all of Doyle's works, but is especially worth purchasing because it contains the complete collection of the adventures of the world's most famous super sleuth, Sherlock Holmes. Although written in the early 20th century, Holmes' incredible deductions and brilliant detective work is timeless, and will continue to amaze and entertain readers well into the 21st century. One of my favorites! A worthy addition to any personal library!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sherlock, The Master Detective As you read through this collection of superb novels, you come to wonder, How does he do it? Can a detective as perceptive, as intelligent, as intriguing, really exist? Of course! He exists in the mind of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle created the perfect detective, one that is impetuous, ingnorant and intelligent all at the same time. My thoughts on these "stories" are as followed, they are well writen and intricately made. An incredible read for even anybody who isn't into mysteries. Enjoy this book because it is great!
