Following the success of Lean In and Why Women Should Rule the World, the authors of the bestselling Womenomics provide an informative and practical guide to understanding the importance of confidence—and learning how to achieve it—for women of all ages and at all stages of their career.

Working women today are better educated and more well qualified than ever before. Yet men still predominate in the corporate world. In The Confidence Code, Claire Shipman and Katty Kay argue that the key reason is confidence.

Combining cutting-edge research in genetics, gender, behavior, and cognition—with examples from their own lives and those of other successful women in politics, media, and business—Kay and Shipman go beyond admonishing women to "lean in."Instead, they offer the inspiration and practical advice women need to close the gap and achieve the careers they want and deserve.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It is time I get out of my own way! Each time I express a dream my husband's response is always to go for it. My quick response is something like "no, I can't" or "I won't get in"; basically any argument regarding failure. He is always perplexed by my response. I get frustrated. Then he saw the authors interviewed on Charlie Rose. The next day he told me he finally understood my response and suggested I read this book. Since I literally never give up an opportunity to go to Chapters it didn't take any additional prodding. I had read "Lean In" when it came out. Gave me lots of info on why I made choices along the way but really nothing I felt I could do to change where I am now, but lots of information to help my daughter as she starts out. That changed when I read "The Confidence Code". I get me, my husband gets me and I have a handle on what I do to myself every day. I work with a talented and capable group of woman, and on my way to a meeting with them I stopped at their local Indigo and bought them each a copy. I hope they read it. There is one man in the group - I gave him a copy as well. My boys will get a copy too - lots of info for men. And as men with women in their lives it sheds a little more light on some of our confounding ways. As for me, I am starting to change my daily thought patterns and just this past week I sent an email to request information on a program I am interested in taking. Still scared, still pretty sure I won't get in. Honestly, my biggest roadblock for the past 3 decades has been me. That email is my first attempt to push the roadblock away. It will take lots of pushes I am sure - but it is time to get out of my own way. Thank you to the authors for writing an interesting book that is informative and approachable. Some science, but even that is easily digestible. They may never know but someday when I thank my family in the forward of my PhD dissertation I will absolutely add their names.
