A brilliant debut mystery in a classic vein: Detective Cormoran Strike investigates a supermodel's suicide.

After losing his leg to a land mine in Afghanistan, Cormoran Strike is barely scraping by as a private investigator. Strike is down to one client, and creditors are calling. He has also just broken up with his longtime girlfriend and is living in his office.

Then John Bristow walks through his door with an amazing story: His sister, thelegendary supermodel Lula Landry, known to her friends as the Cuckoo, famously fell to her death a few months earlier. The police ruled it a suicide, but John refuses to believe that. The case plunges Strike into the world of multimillionaire beauties, rock-star boyfriends, and desperate designers, and it introduces him to every variety of pleasure, enticement, seduction, and delusion known to man.

You may think you know detectives, but you've never met one quite like Strike. You may think you know about the wealthy and famous, but you've never seen them under an investigation like this.

Introducing Cormoran Strike, this is the acclaimed first crime novel by J.K. Rowling, writing under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing This is the first mystery novel I've ever read where I had no idea who did it. The story was fantastic and smart and funny and charming. I've recommended this book to so many people.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good JK Rowling has proven that she is an adaptable writer. This was an enjoyable and different thriller, with well developed characters that are usually are not found in the first book of a series. Well worth the read.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from not a bad read but not that exciting I read this purely because of JK Rowling. It's ok, but i found the ending a bit lame. it didnt really catch me. #plumreviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love It took me a little bit to really get into this book, but once I did I could not put it down! Have now read the whole series to date, cant wait for the next one! Highly recommend, great mystery.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly Recommend! This book may not have the huge, shocking twist that seems to be trendy in novels right now but it is extremely well-written and unlike the books focusing purely on shocking readers with a surprise twist, this book has an plot that is amazing throughout the entire book and characters who are so well-developed they seem like real people.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Average read This book was average for a beginner thriller novel, I read all the Cormoran Strike books and this one was my least favorite.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic start to a great thriller series! The Cuckoo's Calling stars one of the most unique leads in a thriller series, Cormoran Strike. He is definitely one of my favourite fictional characters. Robin didn't grow on me but she did in the later books. The Cuckoo's Calling, as we all know, was written by J.K. Rowling. Her incredible talent for plot-writing, pacing, and character development is evident in this series. if you love thrillers/mysteries, you will love the Cormoran Strike novels.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Great to see another side of JK. Just like the Harry Potter series, it is so easy to love the characters, they feel real, and the story is great too. Keeps you guessing til the end.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Slow moving I found this book very slow moving, until more than half way through when it eventually picked up. I don't think I'll read any others in the series, because it didn't impress me that much.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty good Fun to read. JK Rowling is an engaging writer generally (with the exception of the Casual Vacancy). Mystery threads are well woven, if not particularly remarkable. Only thing that bothered me was that she is obviously sowing the seeds for an eventual romance between the main detective guy and his new attractive and smart assistant (though she is currently engaged to some douche-y guy). Such a cliche! Didn't happen in this book, but mark my words, it will eventually happen as long as this book series continues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great JK Rowling is an incredible writer, this book and all three in the series are extremely detailed!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Loved it. I loved this book. i love harry potter. so there might have been a bit bias to begin with. I picked this up for JK. I was not disappointed. Just like HP, it was very detailed in the starting, so might seem slow to a lot of people, and picks up all of a sudden and you have so much stuff going on at the same time. i can't wait to finish the series.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Read! I really enjoyed reading this book. It did start of sort of slow but it soon began to pick up the pace and I couldn't tear myself away from this book. I would recommend this read for sure!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic storytelling! I wasn't sure what to expect but the story description piqued my interest and I love mysteries, so I gave it a go... and I am very glad I did. Immediately I was drawn to Strike; he's the kind of character I enjoy reading about. He's very human, but also extremely intriguing. And Galbraith's writing is off-the-charts good. I am a fan of the mystery aspect of the story as well; really didn't see that end coming. One mark of a really good book, for me, is how quickly I'm involved in the story and with "The Cuckoo's Calling" I was right in from the beginning. I am looking forward to many more Cormoran Strike mysteries.
