Rated 5 out of 5 by from Left Me Wanting More This book left me wanting for more. A very dark & chilling book defining Batman & the rest of the characters has it eventually heads toward the Dark Knight Returns. Miller & Azarrello wrote a great tale with noir artistry by Romita Jr. The final scene is not really final until it’s played out with the reader. Whatever the reader imagines after is all part of the next story the Dark Knight Returns. There are questions to this one-shot. No doubt about it. But what happens between the Last Crusade and the Dark Knight Returns is left up to the reader and their imagination.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good but short and unnecessary This book is OK. It is SHORT and it ends abruptly. It feels like there could be another book between this and DKR. Art is good an Joker is very menacing. But the story is shallow, and it's kind of just a re-imagining of a big event.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Grim and dark.... ....which is what we (....ok, I...) look for in Miller's work. This short tale takes place before the Dark Knight opus, and sets the stage for the world-weary Bruce Wayne that has lost a piece of his humanity along with his sidekick. A very good little story, with excellent artwork.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Enjoyable Little short but an interesting read with good artwork.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good prequel This story is a prequel to The Dark Knight Returns. DKR is an all-time classic (even though it is dated today) and this a pretty interesting prequel. It helps to explain what happened to Batman and why he retired. Was it a necessary; no but it was pretty good.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Short but good Really like JRJ's art and think this is a well done teaser-like prequel to DKR. Wish were longer but packs in a good story.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Prequel So this story is a prequel to The Dark Knight Returns. It helps to explain what happened to Batman and why he retired. Was it a necessary prequel? No, but it was pretty good.
