about

Wishing you a demonic Christmas…

Possessed by a divine entity, Cyril Fane fought rampant evil and the pain of more private losses with a fiery golden sword…until he was beaten and left for dead by a malevolent force. Now exiled from his angelic brethren, he reluctantly joins the Chicago league of talyan—immortal warriors possessed by repentant demons—as his only chance to reclaim his sword and his place in the holy sphericanum.

Bella McGreay, mysterious mistress of the Mortal Coil night club, has also danced around an uneasy affiliation with the talyan. She has secrets of her own to keep, and as the days shorten toward the winter solstice, shadows are deepening all around. Even as she barricades herself against the joys—and terrors—of the Christmas season, she’ll have to decide whether the shadows or her secrets are more dangerous.

Bella and Cyril have good reason to fear evil when an old enemy returns to torment them and the Chicago league. But only together will they find a way to the light after the darkest night.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Liked it Better than the Full Books in the Series <b>"The Darkest Night" by Jessa Slade. Book 4.5 in the Marked Souls series. Bonus novella in the series.</b> Well I must say that I enjoyed this novella in this series better than the four full books of the series. It's a story that takes place during Christmas and features the characters of Bella and Cyril. During the books, we've never been told "what" Bella really is, but this novella answers that question. The storytelling was clear and precise. You could read this novella as a stand alone because it gives you just enough information to know what is going on. Cyril Fane is an angel-possessed human. He's been fighting demons for some time now but recently he's been hurt, his heavenly sword was stolen and now his angel brothers and sisters have renounced him. He is no longer trustworthy. But when Cyril goes to see Bella at the Mortal Coil bar to get a message to the Talyan League (demon-possessed warriors), he's drawn to her like he's never been before. Bella has a secret no one knows. If anyone finds out "what" she is, it would mean her immediate death. But she can't think about that right now. Right now, she has to protect herself from the evil demons that are coming after her. But when Cyril has a problem with her protection method and tries to help her, little did she know that protecting herself is no longer the main priority. Cyril and Bella have great chemistry together. Enough background is given on both characters that you really feel for them. I found myself thinking "awwwww" at some parts and then laughing at others. I liked this novella.
