“The Death of Michael Russo begins in the year 1913 on the day that Joseph Russo a leather worker in Naples, Italy receives a letter that reads: “The Government of France regrets to inform you that your son, Michael Russo has died while in prison on Devils Island.” Joseph didn’t even know that his son was in prison the last thing he knew was that Michael was working on a freighter, but what made this letter worse was that it arrived on the day Michael’s mother died.

Twenty years pass and in 1933 Joe owns a leather business in New York City and on Sunday afternoons; after church, he’d go to see a talking picture and on one afternoon he realizes the actor he’s watching on the screen is his son Michael. Twenty years older but he was sure it was him. Joe rushes out of the theater and into a boy yelling, “Murder! Suicide! Bathsheba murders King David. Both Oscar Winners dead.” The actor portraying David was Michael. How this could have happened puzzled him and he travels to Hollywood to finds Helen Wood, the film’s director and she explains how Michael died in prison and what may led up to his murder and why she believes Michael’s wife was the killer.

Helen was secretly and deeply in love with Michael and she pushes Joe to find out what happened during the last hour and minutes of Michael’s life. With Helen’s Hollywood knowledge and her love for Michael, Joe finds he’s falling in love with her. Joe believes Michael was murdered for the money he was to receive from the movie “Bath-sheba, but not by his wife. Joe believes she too was a victim of murder. Joe, with his sly and old fashion ways helps the Hollywood homicide detectives trap the real killer as love begins to blossoms for him.
