about

El narco. A monster. Un diablo. Jorge Hernandez had been called many things, and it always made him laugh. If there was one word that could be used to describe him, it would be untouchable. Corrupt politicians combined with his charming disposition had contributed to Jorge’s success, but it was often the underlying threats behind his handsome smile that sealed the deal. He was unstoppable.

In Paige Noël, he had met his match. She was a woman as dangerous and sadistic as she was soft and gentle. The last thing he expected was to propose after an explosive first meeting, but the intense fire between them was as addictive as the thrill of violence and power.

When some of his personal enemies turn up dead, Jorge shuffles his daughter into a Canadian school, deciding that things are getting a little too hot in Mexico; but does life ever slow down in this dark underground world?

The devil is smooth like honey, but is heaven ever far away?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from spoiler free After being introduced to Jorge Hernandez in Mima's previous novel, Always Be a Wolf it left me with a great deal of intrigue into who this man was, and what his interest in Diego, Jolene and Chase Jacobs really was. In this eye opening look into the life of the silver tongued Mexican fox, you find yourself rooting for the society's underbelly, as sex, drugs and death intermix with family, love and friendship.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Paige Noel and Jorge Hernandez are the new, twisted couple of the literary world She's back and she's struck literary gold again with sharply drawn characters and a plot that delivers a hammer punch to the gut. MIMA, author of seven previous novels, rachets up the suspense even more in The Devil is Smooth Like Honey - pairing a ruthless, badass assassin for hire with a Mexican drug lord who is cruel and menacing and every bit her match. As the body count mounts, so does the sexual heat. This book is so incendiary it should carry an 18 A rating. Paige Noel and Jorge Hernandez are the new, twisted couple of the literary world and I hope MIMA brings them back in a future novel. I enjoyed every page of this book. There were so many shocking surprises between the covers, but there's more going on than sex parties and smart banter and lethal gunplay. MIMA takes several sharp jabs at the pharmaceutical industry, which has done more than its part keeping the illicit drug trade alive and very, very profitable for people such as Jorge. She also lifts the lid on corruption at the highest levels of government and on racism and how deeply it is ingrained in Canadian society. The book will be a revelation to many readers who thought Canadians were the Boy Scouts of the world. Jorge and Paige are well suited for a corrupt world and the their banter wouldn't be out of place in a Bogart, Bacall film - except this sick couple is bad to the bone. Imagine a depraved version of the Thin Man movies, or Moonlighting or even the Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie hookup flick Mr and Mrs Smith. I really enjoyed Book No. 8, one of those rare sequels that is the perfect companion piece to the original - Always be a Wolf. If you loved Always be a Wolf, you will be happy to know all three main characters have returned - Chase, Diego, and Diego's sexy sister Jolene. As if their world hadn't been shaken up already, having launched a popular sex party business in Toronto against all odds. Now they have to contend with a rival and his assassin-fiancée who won't be content to take a back seat to anyone. Guns and sex and drugs. And who wants to bet against El Diablo?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved it! Amazing! I was blown away by this fast-paced book that always kept me on the edge of my seat. The main character, Jorge Hernandez was dark, charming and passionate and yet, he definitely had his evil side. I love how the book brings up a lot of social issues such as racism and shows things from another perspective. I can honestly say this is one of the best books I've read in a long time. I look forward to checking out the rest of the series.
