Rated 5 out of 5 by from All diabetics should read this book This book on the 'Diabetes Diet' is the most honest diet book that I have ever read. Dr. Bernstein truly gives you the straight and narrow of just why diabetes and the right diet or so important. He, himself is a type one diabetic which is the least forgiving form of diabetes and he has had the condition since he was twelve years old. He is now nearing a healthy 80 years of age and is living proof of how well this type of eating can work. He helps us break away from old the old dogma of the diet pushed on us by the establishment and takes you down a straight and narrow path of what diabetes and diet are really all about. Reading this book - gave me for the first time in my life - a true understanding of just where the parameters lay in regards to diabetes and diet. Within two days of trying the diet I had to give up one of my diabetic medications as my blood sugar levels were getting too low and I am now maintaining near normal blood-sugar levels. The diet guidlines are well defined and really not hard to live with. You just have to get the old dogma out of your head and try this and you will see the results. Dr. Bernstein is a brilliant engineer turned doctor/scientist who has spent most of his life in this field of study and as I said before, he is living proof of how well this type of eating works.
