<_ptext-align3d_left align="left"> This is it—the #1 best-selling digital photography book ever! It’s the award winning, worldwide smash hit, written by Scott Kelby, that’s been translated into dozens of different languages, because it’s the one book that really shows you how to take professional-quality shots using the same tricks today’s top digital pros use (and surprisingly, it’s easier than you’d think).

This updated, second edition of the bestselling digital photography book of all time includes many new images; up-to-date information on gear, pricing, and links; and a new chapter from the author on the "Ten Things I Wish Someone Had Told Me When I Was First Starting Out in Photography."
<_ptext-align3d_left align="left">
Here’s how Scott describes this book’s brilliant premise: “If you and I were out on a shoot, and you asked me, ‘Hey, how do I get this flower to be in focus, with the background out of focus?,’ I wouldn’t stand there and give you a photography lecture. In real life, I’d just say, ‘Put on your zoom lens, set your f-stop to f/2.8, focus on the flower, and fire away.’ That’s what this book is all about: you and I out shooting where I answer questions, give you advice, and share the secrets I’ve learned just like I would with a friend—without all the technical explanations and techie photo speak.”

This isn’t a book of theory—full of confusing jargon and detailed concepts. This is a book on which button to push, which setting to use, and when to use it. With over 200 of the most closely guarded photographic “tricks of the trade,” this book gets you shooting dramatically better-looking, sharper, more colorful, more professional-looking photos every time.

Each page covers a single concept that makes your photography better. Every time you turn the page, you’ll learn another pro setting, tool, or trick to transform your work from snapshots into gallery prints. If you’re tired of taking shots that look “okay,” and if you’re tired of looking in photography magazines and thinking, “Why don’t my shots look like that?” then this is the book for you.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Nonsensical Chit Chat Filled with so much casual chit-chat and bad jokes, which makes it dreadful to read. Sorry I bought the set.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Instructions and Funny! I gave this book to my boyfriend when he received a new camera and he loves it. I read it too and it's great. It's very well written, the tips Mr. Kelby gives are interesting and judging by the photos my boyfriend took to try each of the tips out Kelby really knows what he's talking about. The book is not overly technical but does assume that you've at least read the instruction manual for your camera and have some basic photography knowledge. The writing style is very humorous so it's a good read even if photography isn't your thing. I would recommend this for anyone who has some basic knowledge and wants that extra edge to make their photos stand out.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Some Useful Tips The cover of this book suggests that it's great for point and shoot cameras as well. I think there are some things for the point and shoot photographer, but I found many things not relevant. Also, as Kelby himself claims, this book is written like the advise he would give to a friend if they were out shooting together. He doesn't really explain the basic principles of photography, but instead makes suggestions for specific types of shot. As a beginner with a point and shoot, I found some useful information, but I don't feel that my understanding of photography is vastly deepened and I was disappointed by how much of this I couldn't do because of my camera. This is probably best for the amateur upgrading to a dSLR.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good practical guide. Not for beginners! Great book. Lots of practical hints presented in relatively clear, concise manner. Short and to the point. Not for beginners however! If you are looking for a beginners guide to digital photography and D-SLR cameras, this is not it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A MUST HAVE This book explaines everything you need to know about digital photography, from the camera operation to the final digital photo result you will be enlightened,I would recommend this book to the newbee and to the seasoned photographer, there is something for everyone in this manual and as with Scott's other publishings this is not a technical manual nor is it hard to understand, i'm sure you will not be disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from EXCELLENT!!! This book is to the point and VERY EASY to understand. I would recommend this to anyone who is into digital photography. I have both volume 1 & volume 2. BOTH GREAT BOOKS!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Most Bang for your buck by far An excellent book, especially for those just getting started in photography or recently purchased and SLR and would like to learn how to use it. Every page is a different topic in several major chapters' of photography, brightly illustrated (yes, with real photos) to explain how to get those 'style' of photos.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great book for the beginner photographer! This book is an easy read low on technical jargon and high on everyday talk and also humour! This is a must for any photographer from amateur to professional!
Date published: 2008-01-19
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Among the Best of the Digital Photography Books This book is well written, concise, humourous, and occasionally recommends products helpful to the photographer, but respectful of those of us on a tight budget also. His writing makes you feel that he is right next to you, patiently explaining the steps to achieve a great picture in every situation. The situations are divided into chapters, so that you can easily refer to the specific situation without having to delve through all of the book, however the intro is extremely helpful, so don't miss it! If any photography book could become a best seller, this one certainly could!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a great book! This book is a 'read'. It's NOT a technical manual full of look-up charts and jargon, or how to set up your camera to get great pictures. This is a conversation, tips, common sense direction. Every subject is thoroughly covered in short paragraphs, well organized, in logical sequence, clear language, no jargon, and a great deal of humour. There is so much good information in this book that I'll tuck my camera's manual into it and take it with me on my shoots. As far as 'how to" books are concerned this is the best I've ever seen. After the first few pages I've already seen a difference in the quality of my photos.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must have for noobie photog's This like all of Scott kelby's books is an absolute must have. Espicaly if you are new to photography. I picked up My first DSLR 5 months ago and since have not had a whole lot of luck with my Photo's. But since reading this book My Photography skills have greatly improved. Just little tips that are in there that I haven't seen in any other photography books. And unlike most technology books. Somehow Scott's words and sense of humor keep me attentive and I just can't put the book down. I've found in the past from reading other photography books that They tend to be a little boring and end up half read collecting dust on my shelf. Not this one. It's a Winner for sure. This book has it all. From tips on getting better landscape photo's to wedding photography, portraits and how to apply each in Photoshop. This was well worth every penny and I will be refering to it for years to come.
