about

Swedish crime sensation and No. 1 international bestseller, Camilla Lackberg’s new psychological thriller - for fans of Stieg Larsson and Jo Nesbo Christian Thydell’s dream has come true: his debut novel, The Mermaid, is published to rave reviews. So why is he as distant and unhappy as ever? When crime writer Erica Falck discovers that Christian has been receiving anonymous threats, she investigates not just the messages but also the author’s mysterious past… Meanwhile, one of Christian’s closest friends is missing. Erica’s husband, Detective Patrik Hedström, has his worst suspicions confirmed as the mind-games aimed at Christian and those around him become a disturbing reality. But, with the victims themselves concealing evidence, the investigation is going nowhere. Is their silence driven by fear or guilt? And what is the secret they would rather die to protect than live to see revealed?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Enjoyable Reading I haven't read Camilla Lackberg before this book and I have to say I really enjoyed her writing. The beginning of the book introduces a lot of characters and not having the benefit of knowing some of the regular ones means there are a lot to keep track of. But once I got going the book is very hard to put down and kept me up longer than I wanted to on some nights. The mystery is creepy and elusive and I we are kept until the very end before its divulged, which made this an extra enjoyable read. I definitely want to read the next in the series.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good. As always; I have been an avid reader of mystery-suspense novels for very many years. I have read all of Camilla Lackberg.s books that have been translated into English. The Patrick Hedstrom and Erica Falk books and all her short stories. If anyone deserves the title of "Queen of Crime writers" it is Camilla Lackberg

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The drowning What is up with leaving the reader like this? When I purchase a novel I fully expect it to have a beginning, a middle and an end. What a disappointment! And what s transparent ploy to sell more books...a little bit of Gaby the greedy publisher rearing up here...as we say in Canada...what a bummer!...but I really enjoy your books nonetheless!
