Vegan Food You Actually Want to Eat

Who says you have to give up your insatiable need for comfort food just because you want to eat better for yourself, animals and the planet? Enter: The Edgy Veg, the YouTube sensation (with over 250,000+ subscribers and counting) created by the hilarious Candice Hutchings and her husband James Aita who are on a journey to revolutionize vegan food as we know it.

Tired of a traditional plant-based diet that just felt frankly #sad, Candice started veganizing childhood cravings, fast food faves and food-nerd obsessions. Think more UnOrthodox Lox and Cream Cheese Bagels, Cobb Your Enthusiasm Salad, Buffalo Cauliflower Wings 7 Ways, Easy Cheesy Fondue, Chick Fillet Deluxe and Thank You Very Matcha Ice Cream than zucchini noodles, hummus, smoothie bowls and #cleaneating (fear not, there is a token kale salad.) No food is off limits and everything in the book has received their signature carnivore stamp of approval.

With 138 recipes that take vegan cooking to the next level, tips and tricks for eating like an Edgy Veg, and more dad jokes than you can count, say hello to a vegan cookbook you -- and your tastebuds -- can feel good about. It's time to put down that spiralizer and get ready to have your cake, burger and fries, and eat them too!

Candice Hutchings is the host of The Edgy Veg YouTube channel (250,000 + subscribers and counting) and blog which she co-founded with her husband James Aita. The couple live in Toronto, Ontario, with their two dogs, Sir Winston Churchill and Harley Quinn (@vedgydogs).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This cookbook is wonderful <3 Reading what some of the other reviewers said about some of the recipes being fried, (eye roll) just because it's a vegan book doesn't mean it is all going to be super healthy. I like calling this book a somewhat sinful naughty vegan cookbook. Like any cookbook out there it has super healthy & then some decadent recipes. It's perfect for someone who is vegan to enjoy some of the meals that perhaps they used to eat when indulging & hey! if you enjoy the recipe a lot, modify it and bake it to keep it on the healthier side. No brainer. This book is fabulous! <3

Rated 1 out of 5 by from not good this didn't have hat many recipes and was too expensive for something so simple

Rated 2 out of 5 by from just okay.. A lot of recipes are fried and require multiple recipes to be completed. Some are a little complicated in my opinion. Made 3 recipes out of this book so far and 1 was great (mac n' cheese) - 2 not so much (og pancakes and rainbow slaw). There are many other vegan cookbooks out there that are more worth it in my opinion.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from ok The book is very nice. The recipes look really good. A lot of fried foods, and variety of foods. I will recommend it because everyone likes something different.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Impressed! I found that the recipes were a little hard to follow. I didn't like it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty good I'm not vegan, but looking to eat healthier meals. This vegan cookbook is by far the second best one I've tried. The recipes are simple and easy to make, although some of the ingredients are a bit hard to find and I had to go to a specialty vegan store for it. Other than that, it's pretty darn good.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from nah Lots of the food is actually fried- so I guess I'll be returning this.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty Good Recipes are pretty good, but lot's of fried food and Thai food which I'm not a fan of. The book doesn't stay open by itself very easily, I have to put heavy things on either side when I'm cooking. Also the names of the foods are silly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good cookbook Good cookbook. Like the seitan recipes as well as the basics. However, there is too much fried food recipes to my liking

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent I bought this when I had to remove soy, chickpeas, and lentils from my diet- having the seitan recipe she wrote has made a huge difference. The beef seitan is so good! And my partner is Vietnamese and was shocked to see a proper pho recipe- one that she regularly requests now (along with the chicken seitan in it!). I've not made it through the whole book but the patties are next up on our list for dinner items!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE CANDICE!! I'm always watching her youtube channel and when she released her cookbook I knew I had to have it. So many great tips and recipes in there, really good book for someone that is starting their path to being vegan.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Recipes and Pictures Love the kale salad recipe. Some of the recipes are a little bit time consuming. #plumreview

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great gift This book will make a great gift for someone just starting their journey with veganism or any die hard carnivore. Just like the cover says, carnivore approved. I love the fact that there are many staples in the book like different types of vegan bacon and sauces along with some more complex recipes. Maybe this will be the day I actually get seitan right? One thing I really love about it is that it veganizes some of my family and friends favourite foods which means I only have to make one meal when they visit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Candice is so funny AND talented! Favourite Vegan! Watching her youtube videos was a life saver when I started following a plant based diet. I've learned so many new skills since trying her recipes.. Her hollandaise sauce is the best!!

Editorial Reviews

You're following a recipe online, and you need to scroll or the screen goes black. Your hands are covered in flour, the pot is boiling too quickly, and there's no time to wash your hands. Ah!!! Thankfully, YouTube recipe curator Candice Hutchings (aka, The Edgy Veg) released her first cookbook so you don't have to worry about messing up your computer keys. Known for veganizing animal-based comfort foods such as Crunchy Taco Wrap Supreme, Drunken Fish and Chips, and Sriracha Beer Waffles, Hutchings' recipes require some preparation time and a solid list of ingredients, but (as we've discovered) the wait is worth the work.
