The #1 New York Times bestselling author delivers an action-packed tale of high stakes international intrigue, now available in mass market paperback

Seven days. One girl. No second chances. Madeline Hart is a rising star in British government: beautiful, intelligent, driven to succeed by an impoverished childhood. But she also has a dark secret. She is the lover of the prime minister, Jonathan Lancaster.

When she disappears on the island of Corsica, it's clear her kidnappers know about the affair and intend to make the PM pay dearly for his sins. Fearful of scandal that will destroy his career, Lancaster decides to handle the matter privately and not involve the police.

Enter Gabriel Allon-assassin, art restorer and spy-who must find Madeline within seven days before she is executed. With the clock ticking, Allon is thrust into a deadly game of shadows in which nothing is what it seems-and where the only thing more dangerous than his enemies is the truth.

Gabriel's mission takes him from the criminal underworld of Marseilles, to the stately corridors of power in London-and, finally, to a pulse-pounding climax in Moscow, a city of secrets and violence where there is a long list of men who want Gabriel dead . . .

Rated 3 out of 5 by from My opinion only I got the feeling Mr Silva was told to write this novel. It didn't 'read' as his writing - lots of repeated phrases. Not up to usuL standards. IMHO anyway.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My opinion only Normally I gave 10 books on the go, taking turns on different evenings to read parts of them all. But The English Girl kept me away from the rest until I finished it one morning while under the weather. I'm looking forward to reading The English Assassin next! The English Girl will keep you coming back for more!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from My opinion only This is my first book by Daniel Silva and will certainly read more of his writing. I can picture the places and events of which he speaks. The mystery and intrigue were well developed. You wanted to know what happened next - compelling page turner. It helps to have the "beautiful powerful people" represented. We always want to know of their lives. Quite enjoyed the book

Daniel Silva provides another immensely entertaining adventure with one of the most attractive protagonists you can find in an adventure series. Eagerly awaiting the next one! I tried to read this one slowly to prolong the pleasure, but that proved impossible.
